Bellew did well to keep Usyk at bay until he could no longer do so. Usyk was working on him like a Rubick's Cube from the beginning of the very first round. It was always only a matter of time. The pundits only saw Bellew's counter-punches, not Usyk's domination of Bellew. Nor did they seem to be aware of Usyk's record of gradually finding a way to win (notable examples being the QF, SF and Final of the 2011 World Heavyweight Championships, not to mention every round of the Super Series earlier in 2018). Usyk is such a master of the art of boxing, and his movement and angles are incredibly creative and exciting.

I think I saw a different fight to everyone. Yes Bellew had success early on but I think it's because it was Usyk's game plan. Usyk didn't look concerned or uncomfortable at any point of the fight. In his post match interview he refused to answer the question about Bellew's success in the early rounds because he wanted to show Bellew respect but I don't think Usyk found that fight particularly difficult.

You saw the same fight I saw. Usyk took it very slow and felt him out in the early rounds. Just like Floyd vs Connor Mcgreggor lol. You have casuals saying Connor was on par with Floyd early on as well. Usyk was in complete control. And while Bellew boxed very well he also had to work alot harder than Usyk and by round 6 Bellew's tank was almost empty. In round 7 he was about go go. And in round 8 the stoppage I predicted had to come.

@@chrisotoole9846 Yup! That's one of Usyk's best attributes. He's able to cut the ring so well and he's constantly able to pressure his opponents into a very, very dark place. He's just not giving you any time to breath. Bellew has a huge gass tank but that was only enough for 6 rounds with Usyk.

There are too many big mouths out there trying to play Mr Big and trying to intimidate. This man Usyk is just cool as you like, so confident and focused and just oozes class. He will rule at heavyweight also, his movement is too good. Him and his team are not stupid. Do you think they would be so pushy and confident if they were not convinced he is going to rule? They are pushing for the HW division and they don't appear fazed. I feel there is a lot more to come from Usyk and we have only actually seen 70% of him at his best to this point. He will rise in level and he is just top class ELITE! watch out all!
@yamidorooda27536 жыл бұрын
Usyk let Bellew have the first few rounds for the following reasons: 1) His first U.K. fight: Bellew was cheered as he walked in, and Usyk was Booed. As a smart fighter, Usyk knew finishing Bellew off in the early rounds won't win any U.K. fans. It was an act of respect to the home fighter as well as a smart business move. Trust me on that. 2) Skill and Pacing: A skilled fighter paces himself and doesn't run down his tank so early in the fight. Bellew pleased the crowd early with a hopeful performance. But in the end, Usyk allowed Bellew to please the crowd (and commentators) who were overwhelmingly in support of their home fighter. This was killing two birds with one stone as the flashy performance took its toll on Bellew's gas tank by the 5th round. 3) Fitness: Foot and Punch pacing is important. That's what truly sets a champion apart. Any man can put on a pair of boxing gloves and enter the ring. But the champions are the athletes that are well rounded in all areas (especially fitness). You cannot use fitness as an excuse for someone loosing (e.g. saying that dropping a few pounds took its toll on his performance). As an athlete that decides to box ? Your fitness is your responsibility. 4) Underestimated punching power: Isn't it ironic that Usyk was seen as a boxer with a relatively weak punch, yet he won the fight by a flat line K.O. ? This is no mistake. He proved himself many times over in this fight and still looked fresh afterwards. Good work by Bellew. Respect for taking the fight. But I think Bellew over estimated his own punching power and tasted the irony of it in the end.

I think Bellew fought the right fight, it's just that Usyk is clearly the better fighter. I can't believe Bellew got up, he is a warrior, no shame in losing. Hats off to both guys, I liked the sportsmanship at the end. This guy is gonna be a huge problem when he chooses to move up to heavyweight. That division just seems to get better and better.

Usyk had the perfect game plan, cut off the ring beautifully, took his time, backed him up, never got out of his face, got his timing after a few rounds and then his footwork...his timing and his balance just overwhelmed Bellew. It was the 4th for me that changed the fight. Usyk almost punched him off his feet, Bellew realised this guy isnt gonna back down. And the short left before the looping left dazed him that much he never saw the finisher coming. A fabulous boxer. Paulie got it spot on, Bellew was slipping the straight left, so Usyk adjusted and threw the looping left so Bellew didnt know whether to slip or duck. Usyk is a bloody beast. And the best man won, convincingly

I think the Sky commentary during the fight was a bit biased. I just watched the fight again with foreign commentary and yes bellew did land some good right hands was able to back Usyk up momentarily but in-between those moments Usyk was applying constant steady pressure with his footwork and Jab. I don't see how bellew was up on the score cards going into round 8, maybe you could have had him 1 round up at the most but not by 2 points the UK judge had it and 3 Rounds by the mexican judge. My concern for Usyk in the future if he's tackling UK heavyweights is that if hes in a close fight he will lose on the scorecards, He will have to KO them or just outbox them very decisively.
@DeletedScenes3126 жыл бұрын
The Sky coverage was awful. So were the scorecards. Round 1 was close, because nothing happened. 10-10 Round 2 Usyk was content just having a look, while Bellew outworked him. 10-9 Bellew. Round 3 similar to 2, but slightly closer. 10-9 Bellew. Round 4 and 5 Usyk started controlling the action with his jab and footwork, while also matching Bellew for power shots. Usyk actually landed the best shot of the fight, up to that point, which the Sky crew completely ignored - they showed replays of Bellew hitting Usyk's gloves between rounds instead. Both 10-9 Usyk. Competitive still, but not that close. Round 6 and 7 Usyk bossed. Tony had no answer for Usyk's attack, couldn't land his own shots, and he'd emptied his tank. Both easy 10-9 Usyk rounds. 68-66 Usyk If you give Bellew round 1 (which you shouldn't), it's still only 67-66 Usyk. There's no way Bellew won anything from 4 onwards.

It was so good to see Bellew getting schooled. I didn't like how Bellew behaved after the Haye fight. He walked on fake confidence after beating a shot fighter and he is a bully. And I don't like emotional messes in general. I predicted a stoppage in this fight as I anticipated Bellew's team to throw in the thowel later in the fight. I didn't think Usyk would be able to knock him out though. Have to be honest and say I absolutely loved it as I really dislike Bellew. I think Bellew handled himself well though. He had the right mindset and I've never seen him so good. But outworking Usyk to snatch some rounds early on will obviously take it's toll on the gass tank. He had the right game plan: Wanted to get him out early but he never came close. And you could see how gassed Bellew was in round 6. In 7 he was ready to go and the stoppage had to come in round 8. Becuase Usyk was able to do whatever he wanted to do from round 6-7.

I feel like Bellew was resigned to losing before the first bell, but he wanted to go out with a “brave loss” because people buy into that sort of stuff. A lot of people might disagree, but think about it: his movement was sharp and he kept trying to catch Usyk with his right hand but he had NO plan B. In fact, he overdid the bobbing and weaving, as if he just wanted people to know that he still had it , gassing himself out. How many times have we heard about how much of a smart boxer he’s been throughout his career, isn’t that what the pundits say? Surely he knew that he wouldn’t last with that level of intensity, but he was more focused on putting on a show. I think he knew that he was very much outclassed and that Usyk carried him to make it an entertaining fight. Usyk just signed with Matchroom and he is working on raising his stock in the UK, listen to how many times he said he loves the UK etc. This was the perfect fight for that and the emotional aspect that Bellew provided ensures that it will remain in people’s collective memory. Furthermore, Bellew and Eddie Hearn are good friends and Bellew admitted to owing Hearn for turning his life around financially, so maybe a bit of quid pro quo on his way out? I’m just reading between the lines here, it was a great fight but you know how it is with boxing...

Dan A Dan A I didn’t “claim” anything, I said that’s the feeling I got watching the fight from start to finish. Am I reaching? Probably, it’s just a theory, but it’s far from disrespectful . Being a former champion doesn’t preclude someone from caring more about the performance than the result especially when they’re at the end of their career and they haven’t fought a competitive fight in over 2 years. He gave up his world title to fight David Haye, a man who had previously retired due to injuries and was way past his best in the first fight, then again only a year later after tearing his Achilles’ tendon. He only defended his title once prior to that and he clearly had a different mindset from when he was chasing a title and that’s okay . It’s okay for someone to no longer have their heart in their chosen profession and to point it out when it’s so obvious is not a sign of disrespect, it’s quite the opposite. Maybe he would have done better if he’d remained a cruiserweight and got a few more title defences instead of the exhibition fights with Haye

Thankfully he didn't. Watch the fight without the commentary, specially if you have the fight even or Bellew ahead. The first round, for example, according to compubox Bellew only landed one punch, Usyk 3. Dwyer, didn't give Bellew a single round and he had his money on him as a value bet. Also, as you said, Bellew fought with a lot of intensity, which probably tired him as the fight progressed. I think some holding tactics, or anything to bring the pace of the fight down would have helped Bellew, albeit, applying such tactics on Usyk is difficult due to how quickly he moves. Usyk is the best CW I have ever seen (too young to have seen Holyfield). He is a very interesting addition at HW, though I think the elites would be a bit too much for him. Concerning is that he can be caught with counters, and at HW one counter can turn the lights off.

Bellew was always slipping to his right looking for the counter straight, but once Usyk made the adjustments, Bellew was just slipping straight into Usyks modified, arching power left hand. Also think, as well as the weight cut plus Usyk never allowing Bellew to rest when he obviously needed to, age may have played a factor in Bellew gassing so quickly. He's 36 in a few days and clearly not in his physical prime. Something you can get away with vs an old washed up Haye, but not vs someone like Usyk. Not saying he'd have won with a 35 year old brain in a 27 year old body, but he'd have probably kept it competitive for a few more rounds at least. Ultimately, Usyk was too clever, too skillful and too physically fit for Bellew.

Honestly, I don't feel Bellew was ever a threat to Usyk - not even close. The early rounds that he won, were mere pleasantries, given away to sussed Bellew out. Once Usyk saw his opportunity, it was only a matter of time. Usyk wasn't even tested. Watch the final stages of the WBSS, those fights were infinitely tougher and more gruelling than anything Bellew could produce. This was just another day in the office for Usyk.

Yes it's USYKs footwork it's exceptional. Bellew did brilliant for 5 rounds but it was just taking so much out of him due to the consistent footwork of USYK. From round 5 onwards USYK was just stalking Bellew around the ring I knew sadly it was probably only a matter of time then once his energy was zapped. But what a way to lose Bellew should be proud. I don't think many expected him to be ahead on the scorecards by round 8.

It will take someone that big and powerful to slow him down. If someone can stop USYK standing right in front of them that's half the job done. He grinds people down that's what his opponents need to stop. I don't really see massive punch power from him against the top heavyweights it's just his fitness and movement that's very very good. Simply put, Usyk is just a better fighter than Bellew. I do see him struggling at heavyweight as he gets hits far too often and if AJ or Wilder land the shots that Bellew landed early on, it will be game over. So....big question has usyk any chance as a heavy as he is bound to go up for the money nd off course glory ?? For me he has, but we will have to see if he carrys his skill set (which I think he will), what kind of power he has and who he fights. Any talk of beating AJ is fine but far to early, he is probably a better boxer skill wise then AJ, but if AJ catches him that prob would be that. Exciting any way, I reckon he could do great, but I said the same about David haye when he moved up and overall he was a huge disappointment.

chris mahon usyk is technically far far superior to Haye ever was, and maybe a bit naturally bigger too. He already beat joe Joyce and other heavyweights in the wbs. I think he causes Joshua wilder absolute hell and I’d pick usyk to win actually, he can back them up and get them tired just with his footwork and ring craft. A big easy target like Joshua is made for usyk imo, he also has the speed advantage over aj, Joshua is usually the faster man. He got the better of a prime klitschko in sparring too that’s known. I think he’s going straight to the top, he’s that good.
@chrisM336 жыл бұрын
@@alexb292 yeah that my way of thinking, I think his skill would cause them total panic. I saw the Joe Joyce fight and he won easily and was fully in control. Gonna be so exciting with him , AJ, Fury and wilder about. And some younger up and comers over the next few years.

chris mahon fury is the wildcard as he’s no easy target himself, wilder is very very easily hit and I just think with the massive advantage pedigree wise usyk has he’d simply stay clear of the windmills and manouvre wilder around the ring and do what he wants with him. Aj the same

We saw the best Bellew we've probably ever seen. Not sure if it was Usyk's choise to check him out first and give away few rounds or Bellew's boxing brain just improved that much. He's already beat them all though, except Dorticos and Lebedev (who both lost to Gassiev). Usyk beats any heavyweight not named Joshua, Wilder or Fury (fully fit and motivated version). Even against those, he causes problems, and is still in with a chance if he fights his best fight. The heavies are slower and less accurate than the cruisers, and they'll also come forward, which suits Usyk's style. Look at Joshua vs Parker. Close fight (whatever the official cards showed). Usyk is the exact same size as Parker, but a lot quicker and more skilled, especially in footwork and creating angles. Joshua might eventually catch him, but Usyk will give him fits.
