How is this not a huge thing?
@christiancampbell1391
@christiancampbell1391 7 жыл бұрын
Could be due to the magnetization of petroleum in 2012 if I recall. Applying the ferrofluid technology with petroleum has allowed for the same process to be done with the intent of cleaning below and above the surface of the ocean, or water in general.

Ideally Jekyl@ The solar panels you're referring to don't produce nearly as much energy as you think. For every oil machinery used to make energy, there needs to be thousands of solar panels just to produce the same amount as energy as they do. We should use nuclear energy, it produces much more than oil/and or solar panels combined, and it's much safer.

My speculation here, but I believe it's because oil is non polar so they meant be using a non polar substance to coat the sponge or something because in chemistry Polars dissolve/mix with other Polars and vice versa

Considering, the concept of what makes a material hydrophobic and hydrophilic is relatively easy information to get in other forms, his explanation was enough. These videos are only a minute to three minutes long on average, so any other info was most likely edited out in favor of length and simplicity for everyone.

Is it dangerous to the environment? (Merely curious, seeing as I didn't see that being mentioned anywhere. Someone tell me please if it was in the video or Extra research would be required...)

If there is a way they could make this less dense, using it INSIDE the oil and fuel tanks (much like the foam anti-sloshing inserts in racing cars) of ships to prevent any kind of spill in the first place would be a better idea than trying to use it to clean up afterwards. Sure, you'd loose some capacity for carrying oil, but if it means you can crash a tanker and not loose any oil; it's a better option than what we have today. Getting the oil out of the sponges while in tanks would obviously present a problem, but I think that can be addressed by some kind of pneumatic or physical compression mechanism that would squeeze the sponge and release the oil into pickups for pumps or siphons.
