The use of the Smart Grabber would have probably been to grab only the red hot cannon balls from the furnaces. That way you don't contaminate the production line with iron when the furnaces are out of wood.

Have you seen or tried Rustil? A fairly traditional roguelike but it's action and you get floating weapons and can effectively tame creatures, even bosses to be your familiars and summons. It's on Steam as Early Access. They recently did a major update in October and have a major update planned for december. They havemt said what the december update will add but its supposed to be huge
