Ant queens are actually fertilized during their nuptual flight. They mate and then make a nest. All of the ants in their colony are a combination of the DNA they collect and their own.

An actual mod centred on how ants function, with a queen that is able to lay various types of specialist eggs depending on what the colony needs (like shield ants that can act as living walls, soldiers, specialized workers and so on) would be super cool. You could have it so that the queen has her own skill tree that she needs to go down in order to access more and more specialized ants, with the eventual ability to create another queen that you can send off and start an additional colony. You could even potentially have a research tree dedicated to buffing your ants, leaving lasting infrantstructure for the eventual point when the queen dies, allowing the new queen to not have to start from scratch with their skill tree. It could also let you unlock some ant themed stuff, like the ability to harvest leaves from trees to feed a special, more efficiant mushroom type to better sustain a large colony. You could unlock special furnishings that do things like give eggs hatched near them skill buffs, or act as more efficiant workstations when manned by their respective specialist ant. If something like this already exists, please let me know, and if it doesn't and you know how to mod, it would be bloody awesome if you did make it.

The funny thing about trying to burn down that hive, is that the game is actually programmed to put fires out if they get to a certain size. If too much of the map is on fire, the game literally calls in a rain storm to put it out. So no, it wasn't bad luck. Btw next time for insects, hold your colonists behind a door with your mele pawn infront. This way you colonists can all shoot at the enemy while the mele tanks and holds them back. Don't know if that would of been enough but certainly better than fighting in the open.

Boris related trauma aside, ants do have a very strong immunity due to producing their own anti-biotics - its actually an avenue of medicine research. The strong stomach can easily represent their fastidiously clean nature. Food that has gone off is a great danger to the colony, so it is rapidly disposed of. Miner, not to be confused with minor, not to mention minor can mean more than referring to a child, it can used like "a minor amount of [insert item here]" or "minor inconvenience" A miner is a word that refers to people who work in mining operations It is easy to mistake the 2 as they sound identical to one another. This however can be avoided by pronouncing the words in a different way from one another, example: pronouncing minor like "mine-ore" and pronouncing miner as you would expect, "mine-er"
