Thanks for the deep dive! I'm moving to Da Nang in January. I have a lot of friends there, mostly teachers. Here's a tip about traveling from the airport to Hoi An: During peak tourist seasons, pre-booking transportation is recommended, but sharing rides can still be an option if you find other travelers. Da Nang airport can get quite busy, so using official taxi services or Grab is safest. While some taxi drivers will offer to share their WhatsApp or Zalo for return trips, it's better to use official booking channels or your hotel's transfer service for reliability and safety. If you plan to stay long-term, a trusted grab driver can be arranged through reputable companies, though expect to pay $100-300 monthly for regular service depending on your needs. Don't try to drive your own motorbike though - I've seen too many accidents. People aren't used to this kind of traffic. If you're not an experienced motorbike driver, stick to Grab.

@@bunbohue369 if youre traveling you should be managing your stuff like have a skeleton of permanent belongings which fit adequately in your baggage, then you have your expendable items which you get rid of to lighten up to move to the next destination and re-bought. If you cant manage the minimalist nature of long travel and have a need to hoard stuff, maybe its time to settle down Same with attachments; when you travel around you are in the program that you have to leave and your stay is not permanent. The pro is you have friends and experiences in different places. I have found no problem in doing this, maybe this is a problem for younger ppl, kids for sure, who like to have a constant group of friends and get emotionally attached. Again, face with these issue maybe its time to settle down

There are places in the world where people survive without money at all. So of course there are cheaper places to live than Da Nang. I think what most people mean when they call Da Nang "the cheapest" is the price/quality ratio to live/retire as a foreigner. But in the end, everyone decides for themselves what works best for them.

Prices are very affordable if you compare to US/Western Europe. Most of the time I was covered by travel insurance. But for example, for a specialist doctor visit + 2 different scans and a blood test + a follow up doctor consult it was around USD200 at a relatively expensive hospital, all done on the same day. A tooth filling is around USD15

Thanks for a great video with lots of useful info. We have been slow travelling since 2015 so I certainly understand the burnout and you have to stop moving for a while and just stay put. If you don’t, the feeling of traveling gets replaced with the feeling of just being homeless and dragging yourself from place to place. I started watching you when you were in Türkiye, discussing Ikamet I think ? Anyways, we are currently in Japan and will slowly make our way through SEA. Yes, Vietnam is surely cheaper, but like you both hinted early in your video, Malaysia is nice. Very nice. English widely spoken. Infrastructure better. Medical care quite good. No guns. Excellent mix of foods. Wonderful friendly people too. I agree, KL is a bit much of an urban jungle so I am heading to Penang for retirement. The overall vibe there is just perfect for me.

Well, the choice between the various SE Asian cunntries (pun intended) is very simple: if you like drinking a lot of beer, stay out of Thailand, Malaysia and Laos. The prices are ridiculously high. If you want the cheapest, easiest long-term visa, only go to Cambodia. The rest of the cunntries in the region make it very expensive and laborious to arrange a "retirement visa". Easy as that. 👍

I like your take and insight. I lived in Hanoi for 8 months working full time in the corporate world and travelled to Danang and its on my list of places to retire. I am in my 50s and pretty much can afford to retire anywhere I wish in SE Asia which I will do next year. I like your guide and recommendations. If I may give you some advice: I was there 8 months and did learn the basics of the language as I think we all should when in a foreign land as a token of respect to the natives as well as to make life easier. FYI in Vietnamese the TR is pronounced Ch. So, for example Na Trang is pronounced Na Chang or the common last Vietnamese name Tran is pronounced Chan. And I am so sorry Da Nang has a soft A vowel sound on the Nang. Love your video. Please do not take this the wrong way.

Da Nang is definitely one of the best places to retire in SE Asia, I hope everything goes as planned for you next year. Learning the local language for sure makes living anywhere so much better. We know the right pronunciation of Da Nang and Nha Trang in Vietnamese, but in this video we are speaking English, we say it as it is pronounced in English by native speakers ;) Same as if we were talking (in English) about Japan, we wouldn't call it "Nippon"

Fyi, foreigners can own apartments in Vietnam, most of the ongoing developments have quotas for foreigners, you can just come to their offices, talk with a broker and they will assist you with all the paperwork for you.

Foreign property owners have a lease term of 50 years. Extension applications can be submitted three months before expiry. During this time, real estate can be sold or inherited. If the lease is not renewed or sold within the deadline, the property becomes state property.

Da Lat is the best place for slow living, if you like highlands, the weather is also cooler than plains. Other recommendation could be Nha Trang, it's a beach city like Da Nang, but smaller, more chilled and relaxed vibes, I see many retirees there. Hope that will help!

'It gets really hot' is not really a good indicator. (I grew up in Singapore. I love 32 and higher). Maybe good idea to mention why someone would pay for your guide? FB is free. Driving licence not valid? (I am Dutch / Spanish and can drive in Vietnam). 'If you're older'? Uuuum. I'm 67 and have more energy and fun than most 'kids'. You are from another country, the locals are not or maybe, I misunderstood. "Lots of coffee shops". Now, I understand why there are so many Dutch there. 😂

Great to hear that you have a lot of energy at 67. Me at 38 feel like I definitely have less than in my 20's. More responsibilities and health concerns that take that extra energy. For sure if you have the time you can find most of the information on Da Nang for free and ask people on Facebook. Although you never know who will reply and whether their lifestyle and opinions are similar to yours. That area is indeed very nice! We thought about trying to move there. But I talked to people who had the experience of living there, and they said that it can be quieter overall, but it feels more humid. The breeze and the ability to walk to the beach every day kept us from relocating across the river. Although we did live in a more local neighborhoods too.

For younger women that don’t speak good English yet I’d say it’s understandable they are shy :) My experience in Da Nang, Vietnamese men and women with better English are quite talkative and fun to have a conversation with. I’d suggest going for a digital nomad/language exchange meetup. I found them on Facebook. For us Da Nang was the best place price/quality of living.

Thanks for sharing. I have been travelling for 55 years since I was 11 years old. Over 100 countries. Now I just turn 66 and will retire. Everywhere is my home the weird thing is travelling is an addiction the more you travel the more you want to see. Just many places and so little time. 3 places I will stay in the USA, Brasil and Thailand. Enjoy your life. Do it while you are young. Remember the world is your oyster. After all you are the captain of your life.❌⭕❌⭕

@@OlgaProGoingPlaces yes friend. I met king queen and beggars but life is about experience. All human are equal and some are luckier than other. At the end of life we arrive at the same airport carrying our own experience . One country made me cried was India. Now I understand Why the prince became Buddha. The place I feel God was Alaska. Only God can created such a magnificent paradise.. Have fun and enjoy your journey.💯👍🙏

At the time we do not prove planets exist , he had a formula to show there are billions of planets. He passed away and now we find thousands of planets. And not only that but some are like 🌎 earth . rent is around 300$ in Da Nang (small studio close to the beach) and food is very cheap. expenses on top are extra (travel, visa, medical etc)

Hi guys. I'm planning to go to Da Nang in December. How is organic fruit and vegetables there, like is it easy to find? I see in your videos that they have lots of local farmer markets. I'm guessing that they don't have too much certified organic, maybe in some shopping malls. Very informative video, thanks.
