Olight Marauder Mini vs. Marauder 2

Generally speaking. The red is for preserving night vision, green is popular for hunting, it makes blood stand out on leaves, and blue makes maps and such easier to read. It's kind of irrelevant though. If you have to cycle through white, blue, green, or anything else to get to the color that preserves night vision, then you've already lost your night vision by the time you get there. Yes, it's just gimmicky. If you're concerned about night vision, then you really should have a separate light that is only red. That way you just have to grab the correct light and you don't have to worry about white light.

Blue is for blood, red for reading maps. Topo maps use a red/brown for the lines specifically so it can be seen under red light. Nobody in the military uses blue light for reading maps, it's mainly a hunter or tracking color to find blood or make foot/animal prints stand out better in snow

@@AkiraSRT9 there is actually a time bracket for eyes to adjust, from 5 mins to give 10% more light upto 1 hour to get 90% light so good luck waiting an hour... and if you have just looked at a 20k lumen light it will probably take even longer

Red preserves your natural night vision the best, but green increases contrast and clarity while still mostly preserving your night vision. Blue can be used to spot fish, or to track blood trails, etc and still preserves your night vision better than white light but you'll have a noticeable adjustment period.

Blood stands out better under blue light. Also, animal tracks stand out better under different colors at night based on the environment. Green for grass, red for pine needles, blue for snow

Looks like the Marauder mini is a definite winner with the circle spotlight, and most case uses. Not to mention it's lighter and easier to carry and handle. Yes, the Marauder 2 has incredible lumens but it gets washed out for most applicable uses and you don't have RGB lights. I'm glad I went with the mini.

If they could make a Marauder 3 that is exactly like the 2 but a little slimmer and with a round spotlight instead of a square... itd be the perfect edc. Especially if they made a tripod for it that could sustain the weight. I have a 2 and love it. Just ordered a Javelot 2 pro to have a better spotight because I'm sick of the square lol.

The marauder mini is absolutely great. Not sure about the green and blue, but red usually is used to protect night vision and that will be genuinely useful. There is no "moon" mode on this flashlight as the minimum white output is still fairly bright, even for the red at the lowest setting.

I just got the Mini. As to the red, green, and blue lights. People are saying it's a gimmick and arguing about which color is good for what purpose. People have individual perceptions of color, so some colors will be better than others. I like the green. It looks amazing at night. Also, each color can be stepped up. Not many reviews show that. I like that they went with a serviceable battery on this model as well. My complaint is the same as the reviewer here. It's hard to see the status symbols, and i wish the flood and throw could be combined.

Thank you for doing this comparison. The only other video that did a Marauder 2 / Marauder Mini comparison as of now is a fully German video. I agree with you, they shouldn't have made this a RGB flashlight and used those 3 LED slots for normal LEDs instead. I wish they kept the USB-C charging and made the LED indicators brighter like you said. It's still a cool flashlight, but the Marauder 2 is just so much brighter and better, even if it's bigger, heavier, and more expensive.

What might have inclined me to buy it would be if they had a way to remove the convenient magnetic charging section to expose a sealed USB C port so that it could act as a powerbank (unless they can have the MCC connection act as a powerbank itself?). I use the powerbank feature of the Marauder 2 about as much as I do the flashlight. One justification for spending for the light was the included USB C to C cord and USB C charging block or power adapter.* Initially, I joked that my new powerbank came with an awesome built in flashlight. Turned out it was not just a joke. [* By the way the Anker GaN power adapters are awesome.] I very much like that the Marauder Mini has a replaceable battery.

As always, Harley, thanks for the review. I love the fact that you’re always up front with the affiliate link, in addition to the comparisons you do with the various lights. Is there much interest in comparing the Marauder Mini’s spotlight with the beam of the Javelot Mini? I (will) have both soon, but I don’t have a good setup for shining them at any distance, nor do I have good video equipment.

The reason the distance beam is now round if what I recall hearing/reading is correct, is that the Marauder Mini sports a round LED, like the Javelot Mini. I don't know/recall if it is the same one. I suspect it is. I was just in my attic yesterday checking out a roof leak using the Javelot Mini. Awesome little light--it was handy to have it on my belt while I was crawling around--and the magnetic tail stuck fine to the metal screen plates that hold the joists together.

What’s the run time and what type of batteries on the 2? Also it says built in batteries. Are the batteries serviceable and replaceable easily? Just watched a video about right to repair and they had the Maurauder 2 in the video were the batteries aren’t made to be replaced. This alone might have me cancelling my order that I just placed

I agree. I have learned the hard way that ALL batteries die and if not able to replace the entire flashlight goes in the garbage in 4-8 years max.

I don't know how there would be a vrs between these two lights. The mini is 7000 Lumens with RGB and the Marauder is 14,000 Lumens without RGB. Both have the flood and spotlight switch not sure what the bigger Marauder uses in term of battery vrs the mini. I just ordered a mini a few days ago and I have many different lights that are beast throwers or flood, but I more prefer a more compact light to carry which this caught my eye. I walk my dogs at night and figured the red led would be less intrusive going around the neighborhood. At times I like to hike and camp in the woods which having the option of spot or flood would be really helpful. Not sure about the battery life because non of the videos I have watched covered that or even the durability of the mini. Don't think I'd buy the Marauder mainly for its size and as far as light output 7000 Lumens is way more than you'd really need, unless you're in law enforcement or search and rescue. I doubt you could make anything out at 600 meters in the dark especially out in the woods or out on flatlands. I hope I get my money's worth when mine arrives, I was lucky to find one for $106.00 new online, after seeing them from $199.99 on up which kept me from buying. Just hope the durability isn't as bad as Acebeams products.

After having time to use the Marauder Mini it's a nice and well constructed edc flashlight. It's a bit weighty but not so much that you couldn't carry it around in your coat pocket. The spot is nice, however when comparing it to my Catapult V6 pro the mini just can't compete. The Marauder Mini spot has a wider spill which does very well in closer range but not so well in distance. Olight should have upped the Lumens to around 1100 even 1200 for the spot. Flood has a very nice wide spill but in the woods it's wasted, it simply makes the front beam blackout when dealing with looking at objects in front of you. I use my Wurkkos TS23 though a much thinner flood and 5000 Lumens it punch to see further out at a wider spread, also over powering the 7000 Lumens in the process. This is due to reflector type and width if the heads. The RGB comes in really handy but the blue imo should have been a UV led especially if you use the Marauder Mini for hunting. I like how the Marauder Mini feels in your hand with a nice gripping feel. The power button and led display for battery life and Lumens settings is really nice. However some may not like having to rotate the button to unlock and turn the light on. While you can dial up or down your light output you can still double click to hit max output quickly. The charging method I am a bit iffy on, being magnetic while nice the problem is the cable is way too short. Some may not be bothered by that if you have a power strip nearby that uses USB support. Lastly the battery and runtimes are really good, it says you can use the flashlights battery as a power supply to charge up phones or other devices, however finding the proper cable is something you'll have to research. If you use other Olight products that utilize the magnetic power cable just know you cannot use these cables on other Olights that aren't listed. You should probably research those lights its compatible with. The Olight Marauder Mini isn't by no means a bad flashlight, but 7000 Lumens is a bit of a stretch, more like 6300 tops. It's a great flashlight for hiking or setting up camp or out in an open field. I'd stick to spot if you go into the woods just my opinion. Price wise I'd say $120.00 tops and no more on this product. I say this because the max Lumens is under performing at what they list.

I haven’t bought an Olight in quite a while, since my Warrior X Pro crapped out on me, but this Marauder Mini is looking pretty appealing. Agree would much prefer more white LEDs and lose the RGB. Another plus to using HW link, the more business Olight sees coming from him, the more leverage he gets for more GAW lights.

That Marauder Mini is pretty awesome. Don't really care for the red/green/blue light options.. it does seem a little gimmicky. Glad the Marauder Mini has the circlar shaped throw light and not square light the Marauder 2. That was poor design choice imo.

One thing I wish the mini would do is remember which light mode you were in. If I’m using red light mode and I turn the light off and back on it defaults to white instead of the last color mode you were using

Great light. It's almost like Jonny Ive is helping Olight with designing some of their products, they just feel and look so nice, but I agree that those colors are a joke. They must be using a comity with some women on it to come up with a few of their cheesy ideas. The red is a great idea for protecting night vision but the blue and green make it look like a kids toy, but that's easy avoided in using it. I like almost all my Olights, I have bought a lot of them over the last 10 years or more, giving several away gifts too. I never leave the house without a bright ass light in my pocket and in my car. Bright lights and safety go well together.

You don't need a lot of lumens for a thrower because all that power is concentrated. I have throwers that go out thousands of feet and they're only a few hundred lumens and it looks plenty bright on the subject you're lighting
