It's well documented that many Eastern Bloc athletes were doping, but the sad thing is, some, especially when they were younger, weren't being told what they were actually being given! They were told they were a vitamin supplements! However, I do enjoy watching these old videos. Thanks for posting them!

That's what it looked like. Neither them nor their parents had a voice in that procedure.

They knew. Vitamins was a euphemism for drugs. Anyone refusing their vitamins didn't get to win and were denied privileges. I make no excuses for those responsible for turning athletics into a toilet because they felt unable to complete on level terms with AfricanDiaspora athletes.

5,6,7,8 ran clean in the final. The travesty era. Wholesale doping and no commentator prepared to question why since 1968 East Europeans and W. Germany were sweeping track and field. Even now, this era barely gets mentioned. It never happened! At school and athletics meets the total re erse of this was the norm.

@andersonarmstrong26503 жыл бұрын
Everybody knew these were drugged, nobody said a word. Commentators the world over passing the travesty over in silence because they'd rather doped whites than clean African Diaspora athletes win. We'd watch at home while BBC commentators talked abt 'evolutionary' progress. The real cold war never ended in that sense.
Why is that interesting ? I think it's more interesting that Stecher looks like a hammer thrower, from all her drug taking..and that Raelene is slim and trim from not taking anything.

I read that Stecher became concerned that she might become infertile and so came off steroids at least for a time after 1973, when she set a new 200m record of 22.37 and equalled her 100m record of 11.07. It was a slimmed down version we saw in 1974 at the European Championships, where she lost to Szewinska in both sprints.
