All of the gymnast in this era were graceful and elegant but IMO Nadia Comaneci in the beam with the music in the background is the most beautiful, elegant, ethereal gymnast that I have ever seen in my life! That beam routine is the only thing that is still stuck to my mind out of this whole competition. Watching this again has made me realise that there is no one like Nadia. She truly is one of the GOAT female gymnast of all time!

There’s no artistry anymore in gymnastics like there was in the 70s. Today it’s just one trick after another with no flow, grace, or beauty (with a few exceptions). Sad.

Gymnastics is a athletic sport! Not a balet stage. The only reason ballet was in it was in the fourties and fiftes was that women had not been allowed to do the athletics beyond jumping jacks and the like. The vaults in the fiftes and sixties were so basic it was comical. When the tricks came, so did the athletic prowess!

All these routines are beautiful. Compared to today's routines they are much easier, but oh so graceful and nearly perfect. The choreography was much richer back then. Not to take anything away from the gymnasts of today, but as far as perfection goes, they can't compete with the perfection of this era.

and now americans turned women's gymnastics into sad parody of men's gymnastics with their focus on power and strength. what's the point of that? women are different than men, they have other unique qualities that should be expressed in such sport as gymnastics (that is still called artistic). there is zero artistry, grace and personality in modern day women's gymnastics, it's all about just tumblings, no cohesion in performances, no fluidity, no emotion or expressiveness in combination. women gymnasts look almost like body builders. women's gymnastics has become very primitive, no imagination. and americans contributed to such sad change.

Here's my opinion on the Nadia Teodora thing; I agree that Teodora's floor routine was better than most here, and not so childish like many of this era. (And as a side note, who noticed many aspects of that routine in Omeliantchik's 10 scoring 'birdie' routine in the 80s?? I'm not slagging Oksana off,,, that is another of my 'I will never tire of watching' routines! But I think her choreographer def got a handful of ideas from Teodora's routine! 😉) However, in the end for me it's a very subtle blend of speed, beauty and grace that make me watch Nadia, in this competition, over and over. I know her landings are less perfect than some of the others...but the fluidity of her movements, the effortlessness, (through extreme physical strength) and, this may sound weird, but the shape, flexibility and proportions of her limbs and body and her height!! No-one mentions that but I think it does matter! Filatova is very neat and graceful too, but a little too short at this time. Korbut has similar proportions I think and is more flexible, but I think Nadia is just the right amount of flexible.... It's politically incorrect for me to say so but freedom of speech and just being honest,,,,,well i just don't enjoy watching the modern bulky girls so much or even the bigger girls of this era even though i think they're figures are more womanly and would make more attractive catwalk models (Kim, Toureshceva). But I don't even enjoy watching Nadia so much after these games! I think she peaked here. (Even though she became more beautiful in a womanly way) There. That's my opinion.

Yh honestly body structure/good proportions does help when it comes to gymnastics. I don't know if it's legit or not but I heard certain type of bodies are perfect for certain sports like for e.g Ice skating, gymnastics, some people are just born with a good instrument and if the coaches notices it early on and helps them develop their talents then you have legends like Nadia. Nadia was born to do gymnastics lol when you watch her beam or floor routine you realise she has a perfect body structure/proportions with right amount of speed, flexibility, beauty. elegance and delicate in her movements!

I believe artistry have gone out the window with new COP. What is the point of having music in a floor exercise when majority of the gymnast can’t dance or artistically elegant. Just tumble like the men’s do.

Wow thank you for uploading, the age of classic gymnastics at its best, with artistic grace, beauty and lovely to watch... I believe the judges were told to favor Ludmilla Turesheva, and even she admitted that Olga was the better gymnast (during the 1972 olympics )when she was a judge herself many years later. I love the humble respectable and less glitzy leotards and the clean faces and hair, so that the focus was on the gymnastic moves and not on how they made themselves up, like they do today which is a huge distraction from the sport. The other girls were just as good as Nadia, they should have gained more recognition. True beauty and fluid moves, not a competition of difficult tumbling passes with loud music as in today’s gymnastic competitions.

I agree , the gymnasts look much better back then , than they do now, Ludmilla and Olga didn’t get along so well, and although she may have conceded that she was a better gymnast , she was also quick to point out that Olga never beat her in an AA event, because she always lost her nerve or made more mistakes. Ludmimilla was very generous in her comments to others, saying that by 1976 gymnastics had evolved and that there were many Better up and coming gymnasts than herself. I personally thought she put up a very graceful and solid performance in defence of her 1972 AA title, but that both Nellie Kim and Nadia had surpassed her

I miss this era. No constant shouting from teamates, audience politely paying attention to the routines and reacting only to excepcional moves or at the end, elegance, fluid movements and really balance at the beam. even the simple leotards with conservative cut at the legs are better.
