How often are new species in general found because of museums?

Presumably pretty often it is hard to distinguish a new species from old without specimens to compare to.

There was a place in DC where I used to see a yellow squirrel. I'm guessing he was related to a white one I also saw in the area. It's neat to hear these things and have it remind me.

I have loved The Brain Scoop from the start but honestly, this is the best video you have ever done, the science is strong in this one, I really feel like I'm smarter now for watching. This is such an amazing series. Working in education I see students become apathetic about science and their teachers aren't necessarily able to make it interesting, either due to resources or want. But for those out there this show, as well as Sci Show and Crash Course, really make science/history/life become relevant. Thank you! I get so excited when I see a new video!

Emily is the perfect host for this show because she knows enough to ask very intelligent questions, but has enough left to learn (and the passion to learn it) that the answers she gets are of interest to many other people who wouldn't know the right questions to ask.

In all of my anthro classes (I'm a major), we've discussed how there is really more genetic variation within human populations than between them. The differences we see are just phenotypes (the physical expression of the genes), meaning that the genes themselves are not necessarily too varied. Well, that's my understanding. If you start thinking this way and start looking at facial structures from people all over the world, you'll see a lot more variation within populations than you did before!

For our piece I interviewed Chris and visited Roland at the NC museum, two of the authors on the paper. The discovery was really because he was studying pelts, but they found out later that there was one in zoos that wouldn't breed. They took DNA from the preserved Zoo specimen and found out that it was in fact an Olinguito as well. But the way I understood it, it didn't "lead" to the discovery. Just an interesting side-note.
