I have an olive sapling. Just bought it and repotted it as per your careful video explanations! About 2/3 week after i repotted, we had a really cold week and all the leaves went brown and everyone was convinced i killed it. Now, spring is springing amd i gave it some nettle tea to boost. Within 2 days, stem was turning green and new buds galore! Excited to see what the rest of spring brings! Thanks Mark!

I have a 12 year old standard, in its second terracotta pot now 4 years. Always healthy until this year where it’s just not looking great. One thing is I use garden soil and not compost, compost is very far removed from Mediterranean clay and is too moisture retentive. Anyway mines going into the garden next. Massive hole and lots of grit is my bet. All the best with yours.

Hey Mark, have your trees ever produced olives for you? I’m considering giving them a go but only if I can get a crop from them.
@MarksHouseandGardenUK4 ай бұрын
Hi. You can get a crop but I think it is very unreliable in the UK. Need to follow the process and then hope for a good long hot summer

How long does it take for olive plants to grow to full size if they are being grown from seed 🤔

i see you also put gravel on top of the soil of the newly repotted olive tree. why? should i do the same, for a smaller indoor olive tree?
@MarksHouseandGardenUK Жыл бұрын
Hi. I do this for a few reasons. Asthetics. Suppress weeds, adds weight - ballast, reduces evaporation. I just think it looks great with olives. It's very much personal choice.

Dont you use potting mix in the UK?
@MarksHouseandGardenUK3 жыл бұрын
Yes we do. In fact i think i used a pretty standard potting compost mix to re-pot these olives.

You are a gardeners gardener! Don’t apologise for buying plants and compost from supermarkets, Morrison’s sell an enormous range of good quality plants, pots and compost for very reasonable prices. Garden centres are very expensive in comparison.

What kind of soil mix do we need for a potted olive tree?
@MarksHouseandGardenUK3 жыл бұрын
I would say standard compost but mix in quite a bit of grit for drainage. And additionally, in a pot make sure you use crocks at the bottom of the pot to help water escape after a good soaking. I also added some black stones/gravel to give even better drainage at the bottom. I'm putting an update video together to show how well the olives have grown since repotting. Including some tips. Watch this space. Thank you

How often should it be watered?
@MarksHouseandGardenUK3 жыл бұрын
@@donchava3537 hi don. I give mine a good soaking then allow them to almost dry out. So it depends on the weather and temperatures. If it is dryer it needs watering more often. If it is producing growing fruits feed it too.
