You should be able to get a pump cartridge and a new swashplate (if needed) to refresh that hyd pump. They taught that in Service school because they did not want to pay for a whole pump. Actually was a good way to get a pump rebuilt without costing the customer an arm and a leg. But that was back in the day we actually fixed stuff, not just throw new assemblies at stuff.

I went on the Ag Parts Books and I think I can still get the rebuild kit like you’re talking about, but I can’t get a compensator valve which is sadness 😭

I've heard that's where Oliver comes up a little short is on the hydraulics. You also need to remember it's a roughly 50 year old tractor but o- well, more KZbin content.

These 55 series hydraulics were the best in the west. They were worlds better than anything else at the time.

Great service tip on the hydraulic system. I’m having trouble with my 1955 once the oil gets heated up. Have to get a pressure gauge to check my pump pressure. Thanks!

Watched Farmall Fanatic the other night. He was at a Oliver museum. Actually it was a private collection. Open to the public I believe. Really cool and rare stuff. That fuel filter looks like a JD AR50041

Ross, I believe your relief valve is set to high and the compensator never brings the system pressure up to the relief setting. You mentioned a large shim pack and there should not be a large shim pack with a good spring. Over time the spring would usually deteriorate the shims and then cause the relief to leak and cause overheating. Normally when the relief valve opens the gauge needle will become unstable. Never saw that happening when you adjusted the compensator. Possible that I missed it. As for the heat don’t overlook a worn out compensator! If you start the tractor cold and touch the pump and compensator checking for heat you may find the compensator heating up from internal leakage. There was a special line and beaker to check the internal pump leakage, however you would never condemn the pump based on internal leakage until you knew the compensator was good, because compensator leakage goes directly into the pump housing. Internal leakage = heat. I replaced a lot more compensators than pumps over the years. Might try switching the compensator and see how the system reacts when using the planter. Also you may want to check the top play in the 3 pt lift arms.

I cut probably 45 minutes out of this video. You could see on the footage the needle twitching as I turn it in and the relief valve open. I like your idea about the compensator, however AGCO discontinued it and I haven’t located one yet. I may rob some parts off of the 1955 and see if I can make this work better.

Ross, I've always gone by what the OM says for fluid levels but, while changing engine oil, I've always added a half quart to full quart more than what the book says. Amazing at how sometimes, it's "off" by that amount.

Ross are 1855 has a 1955 block in it I believe because it has the big cooler on the block. Or a replacement one I know something went bad with the original engine. First guy that had it Told the person I bought it from it had blew up and dealership put a new one in . As the farm has 1755 a 1855 n a 1955 . As we've had them for a long time I've updated the wrist pin bushings n rod bolts , also balanced the 1855 n 1955 knowing they have making windows of blocks , figuring it was a good ideal the 1755 not having a turbo didn't bother me to much . I never heard of any issues with the what your opinion on that. Hope ya get to planting soon . From turkey creek farms be safe n thankful

There definitely was more 1855s that had the failure than anything else. And there was a lot of them had the updated block put in them. I haven’t heard nearly as much trouble with 1755s

How about a full-time gauge mounted up on the dash to keep daily track of the hyd pressure and temp?

I had a situation with my White 2-110 this spring that might be related to yours with the 1855. On 2 different days (when it was 85 degrees outside) I would get a lighjt come on the dash for high hydraulic temperature. It would take about 3 hours to happen. However, when the outside temperature was in the 60's, I could run all day with no light. What does that sound like to you?
@rosstheoliverman
@rosstheoliverman Жыл бұрын
Sounds like on the hot days you need to shut it off and go in the house and start drinking. 🤣 I wish I could be more helpful but there’s all kinds of things that could cause problems on these. Air in the system is a big problem that can generate heat. And of course is the hotter things get the oil breaks down and gets thinner just making the problem worse.
@pagrainfarmer
@pagrainfarmer Жыл бұрын
@@rosstheoliverman Now that sounds like a strategy I could get used to! 🤣🤣🤣 I mentioned the situation to by friend Ben, who is excellent on hydraulics, and he said the same as you. He said we'd need to heat it up sometime and he would check it out.
