You may disagree with Oliver Stone's political views, however, in Born On The 4th Of July, he elicited a career best performance from Tom Cruise, and he dramatized the horror of war and the degrading and demoralizing treatment of Vetrans like Kovic, who believed in serving their Country, came home maimed or paralyzed, and were marginalized or treated poorly at hospitals during the Vietnam era. He richly deserved this Oscar.

"Born on the Fourth of July" is one of Oliver Stone's greatest cinematic achievements that realistically and sensitively depicted the excruciatingly painful biopic of Vietnam War veteran, Ron Kovic, played to pure perfection by Tom Cruise.
