I'm 40 years old and my mother recorded this on VHS when they aired it on FOX in the mid 80s. I must of seen this 100 times it was my all-time favorite cartoon. Me and my friends would sing its just a game on are way to the stores to steal stuff LOL. This era would never play this again on television but so glad I found this and still remembered it word for word.

I’m also in my 40’s-but I must have been overseas during the time this was aired…so have never seen it-till now. Reminds me of ‘The Water Babies’…. Question….how come Oliver’s Accent has always been ‘Well Spoken’……when he’s been surrounded by the ‘Common Speech’ all his life….how in Reality-does that work, I wonder? 🤔……😊x

This was one of two animated films that Filmation Associates made in conjunction with Warner Bros. (the first was "TREASURE ISLAND") Filmation produced this animated film in 1974 but Warner Bros withdrew it from release after getting poor reviews and was later aired as an "NBC Special Treat" in 1981, and while Filmation cartoons back then were remembered for their limited animation, the studio eventually succeeded with better animation beginning with "TARZAN, LORD OF THE JUNGLE" in Fall 1976 and "FLASH GORDON, THE GREATEST ADVENTURE OF THEM ALL" in 1979, which was a two million dollar production in arrangement with King Features Syndicate. while it wasn't exactly clear about the business that Warner Bros. had with Filmation Associates, the studio also released "JOURNEY BACK TO OZ" which was Filmation's first full-length animated feature, and made cartoon history when Filmation produced "PORKY PIG AND DAFFY DUCK MEET THE GROOVY GOOLIES" with the popular Warner Bros. characters as a TV special for "THE ABC SATURDAY SUPERSTAR MOVIE" in Fall 1972, which many frowned on since Warner Bros. animation was many times more superior then Filmation's. the background music in this 1974 cartoon film was partially original, since this was Ray Ellis' music (credited under the pseudonym of Yvette Blais & Jeff Micheals) and if viewers listen carefully, some of the music used from Filmation's animated "STAR TREK" series was also used in this film, which was eventually used as stock music in many other Filmation live and animated productions back then.

This is 1 of 3 animated feature films produced by Lou Scheimer, Norm Prescott & Hal Sutherland’s Filmation Associates Cartoon Studios in Hollywood, USA for theatrical release thru Warner Bros. Pictures Inc. and 1 of 2 features that edited for TV as part of the 1980’s/1970’s anthology series, “NBC Special Treat” originally aired on NBC TV.

I get a kick out of the way they try to gloss over the whole illegitimacy/adultery issue in Oliver's backstory (for a kid-friendly version of the story), to make him only SORT OF illegitimate and his father only SORT OF an adulterer. :-)

It's wonderful! thanks! Oh, look at the kid smoking at 28:52. In 2022, they would ban it for including a kid smoking in any media. People today forget that in Victorian times, children were jailed alongside adults and smoked. Political correctness can sometimes makes people historically blind and incapable of recalling how things used to be.

Lol just imagine if Mickey Mouse had called the entire cast, without Fagin, to announce them that he is planning to make a more "serious" cartoon version of Oliver Twist. Mickey: Well then! Now it's time to tell you the differences I'm planning to add in order to I... I mean we make a masterpiece. First let's begin with you, Oliver. I'm planning to replace your frog friend with an another workhouse inmate, which of course it's gonna be a black girl. She will be 2 years younger than you. And... Oliver: *No!!! Why do you want to remove Squeaker?! He does NOT deserve it!!!* Mr. Bumble unimpressed: Let me guess! That little black girl is gonna be perfect at everything. She will immediately realise Fagin's dirty work and she will be the one to stop the robbery. Also, when we, the Board will refuse to give more food to them she will start an entire speach about capitalism, greed, shelfishness and injustice. Am I right, Mickey? Mickey proudly: *Yes, Sir!* :) Mr. Soweberry: Why am I not surprised? Mickey: As you do remember the boys in Fagin's gang were smoking. We can *not* allow that!! *So!!* In the new version, boys, you will all drinking root beer. And with every single chance you will announce that it is root beer and _not_ regular beer. Dodger: You are so stupid, Mickey. Charley: Yeah, yeah. You are. Mickey to Bill: A very important thing to know Bill is that all the guns in the new version will not be real. They will be laser guns. Bill hitting his fist to the table: *How Dare You, Rat?!* Mickey: *For your information we owe Star Wars!!! So shut up your mouth!!! Little kids is our priority! And not Charles Dicken's stupid story!!!*
