Evanna's point about vegans being more understanding towards farmers and people whose livelihoods and communities are based around the farming of animals is a very good point because many people get so stuck in their own beliefs instead of using empathy to realize how much people's lives may depend on farming and something that seems to be totally normal to them, so being more understanding can bring people together on the issue more effectively
@Lorako3 жыл бұрын
That ! And for me it’s the point when she says that the change must come from within you. Not someone who told you to become like that. It’s so true and it’s exactly what I say to my friends or around me. Forcing someone will never result in anything good. But explaining, showing an other point of view may make people see in different perspective and the change may come. Loved all the talk about veganism because Evanna really is smart and inspiring about her way to see things.
@marxistlynchist3 жыл бұрын
I've been vegan for five years and this has always been the most effective sort of conversation I have with others. There are some amazing groups such as The Vegan Society, Vganic and the Vegan Organic Network- which offer education and support to farmers, giving advice and funding to convert their animal agriculture to plant based farming. The Refarm'd initiative has converted many small dairy and beef farms into plant farms, oat growers and oat milk producers. It's truly amazing as their work is not about going against cow and dairy farmers, but rather about working with the farmers to help them shift in a way that benefits everybody. Change definitely starts from within- and we must teach children of all backgrounds and incomes critical thinking skills from a young age to help them question aspects of our lives and the impact of these actions. I was only able to be taught and invest myself in critical thinking through getting a scholarship and trust funding bursaries supporting my family, allowing me to go to private school- and that school putting me in prospective Oxford and Cambridge programmes. This shouldn't be a privilege, it should be an obligation for us to teach our children these skills. Evanna can be very inspiring, and you can tell that after the podcast she would like to educate James and Oliver further about the impact we have and how easy it is to change.

In Italian, the days of the week follow this logic: Lunedì (Luna - Moon, day); Martedì (Marte - Mars, day), Mercoledì (Mercurio - Mercury, day); Giovedì (Giove - Jupiter, day); Venerdì (Venere - Venus, day); Sabato (Saturday) and Domenica (Sunday) have different names instead. But we can understand "their gods" from English (Saturday, Saturn; Sunday, Sun). The original name, I read, have been replaced by names from the most important monotheistic religions (Sabato - Shabbath, Domenica (from the latin Dominicus, day of God). I love you guys,

I just wanted to make a quick note in the politest way I can, as a Cherokee Native American decendant, the techniqually correct term for "Indians" is actually Native Americans. I personally just see this as a more accurate and respectful way of addressing Natives. Its just that, "Indians" was the name the English explorers gave Natives because they believed they were in India so the term is actually incorrrect😊But totally love that you do these little facts and included something really facinating and educational in your videos!! I really adore Evanna, especially after your conversation. So open, tremendous, kind person. And I can't stop myself and not to tell about Vladimir Nabokov, author of book Evanna'd told about. If you suddenly want to read him, "Lolita' isn't a good variant for first time. His narrator is "unreliable", subject is amoral, so the POV is unexpected, embarrassing, completely shocking and i'd say, disgusting and kind of fascinating. In the book he kind of investigated souls like entomologist explored insects. I'd say, the scandalous fame of "Lolita" and it's subject, plot's details he've described really vividly could interfere to read. But his books are worth to read, cause he's brilliantly play with expressive means, points of view, genres etc. I'd advice "Laughter in the Dark", "King, Queen, Knave", "Invitation to a Beheading", "Pale Fire" and his lectures on literature. Nerd mode off ))))

Evanna seems to be such a lovely person. I really like that she talks about being vegan in such a kind way. It's important that people stop viewing vegans as the militant who will non stop criticise what you eat or do... I always thought I could never go vegan, not because I loved meat but because I hate cooking and it seems to be so difficult to cook vegan. Now I'm vegetarian for 7 years and eat 90% of the time vegan for two and a half year (at the moment, I must sadly settle for the cheapest, and it's not always the vegan alternative, so... ) It's just a personal choice to do. Also, thank you for your last words, about mental health. After trying by myself for 20 years, I started therapy a bit more than one year ago and I'll enter the hospital for a few weeks in a few days (first covid test) I'm completely stressed out, but hopefully I'll start being able to deal with my life better after that.

Evanna Lynch is so much like Luna... An advocate for the end of animal suffering. What a great casting choice.
