I love the concept, but darn she's very top heavy. a direct gear driven ball diff 1/12 scale on road car's rear pod, would put the motor 1/4" or 3/8" off the ground for some stability, and big speed too, even from a brushed motor.

Cool, but aren't you putting a lot of strain on the drive shaft with only one U-joint angled? I think it's better to have the gearbox shaft and the axle shaft parallel even if it means a steep driveshaft angle.

Hey Olive RC I need your help I have a 1970 Dodge charger shell body I'm trying to make it into a drag race car the scale is 1/16 but I don't know where to find the stuff to build it like what frame and wheels and motor should I use a frame off of another RC car or what I don't know where to get one I've been a fan I just never talked or anything please I need your help bro

serious, look in eBay for 1/16 and 1/18 scale RC cars/parts for adapting. the other option, just finished a 1/12 scale dragster chassis from 8mm diameter carbon fiber arrow tube, 1.5mm black epoxyglass plate stock for the front beam and rear leaves to the motor pod. RJspeed front steering blocks/pins/springs, 3mm carbon fiber rod for making small stuff like battery rack, electronics tray over top of battery, steering servo mount (it tapes in tight). how to: you cut/grind the carbon fiber to shape for parts to fit tightly (round tube C shapes etc) and CA glue them in place. THEN, about 6-7ft of black sewing thread is used to lash the joints together tight followed by lots of CA glue to soak and solidify the "welds". you can make a very light very rigid chassis with this method, using a minimal amount of tools. if it's a 1/16 scale (real scale) plastic model body, you might want to look at a 1/24 scale slot car rear motor pod for it to fit in the rear wheel wells (can be pretty fast btw), a 10A or 20A brushed motor ESC also pretty cheap in eBay. if scratch building, you definitely need a motor pod and materials to whip up a frame to fit first.

fun stuff, couple months back scratch built an RC hovercraft out of practically nothing. some coroplast and a dollar store pool noodle, with electrics (receiver, steering servo, motor and ESC) it might have cost 25 bucks at the most.
