Us LD boys are getting to be a rare breed, great update and good to see a few I have. Need to get Punisher. Love that Highlander's protective sleeve had highlander 2 in it as you can see it imprinted into the cover lol

I’m discovering a whole new world with these LD videos. I never had a LD or a player, I started collecting VHS from the time I was a kid (all the Disney stuff) into my teens and then right to dvd and my first experience of replacing movies on a new format. It’s interesting to see all these and discover a whole other sect of collectors.

Scream directors cut did come out on DVD in Japan. It comes in a CD jewel case instead of a standard DVD box. The 4K release doesn’t have the extra footage but the picture is fantastic as the old Bluray is a DNR mess.

Love your channel Oliver. I have been collecting lasers since 93. Have a decent collection, all in storage atm. The Star Wars definitive box set, the re-release SW orig trilogy (yes, that one), T2 gatefold, the Abyss gatefold, Toy Story CAV box, Lion Kind CAV box, Beauty and the Beast CAV, Seven collectors set, Aliens gatefold.... had a whole bunch. Even have an original THX WOW disc. Sadly my player bit the dust a century ago, and was able to replace it and that one also died. I have not replaced it since everything is in storage about 700 miles away. But love the channel! I get my nostalgia from here!

neat I've only seen laserdisc a few times in the 80's when a movie shown in class wasn't VHS. I've seen MegaForce on CED as an adult but that's it.

But John-Haymes-Newton looks so AMAZING in Desert Kickboxer... and the drug lord is played by Paul L. Smith!!!! Who is one of the best villains in 80s-90s films, from Dune, to Midnight Express, to the YOU-REALLY-MUST-SEE movie Sonny Boy, in which David Carradine plays his wife Pearl ... and wrote the theme song. Oh, and Brad Dourif.

Great pick ups. Still have a working LD player and a decent collection. Actually have the Pioneer demo disc that came with the player which is phenomenal. Could talk LD with you all day lol.

I remember thinking it was weird some boxes called it "letterbox edition" and some "widescreen edition". I kind of feel like this was a competition and someone was like "surely, letterbox edition will stick!"

Nice Collection!!! I've never really been into Laserdisc. I'm definitely more of a 4K and Blu Ray person, but still really nice.

Never realised there was a proper good blu ray release of The Punisher 1989. I really like that movie and I may have to take the plunge on that disc, it has a workprint edition of the movie on that too.

How do you store/arrange you4 laser disc's? It looks like Desert Kickboxer lives up to its title, at least. BTW, I'd be OK with digital alteration of the Dolph Punisher movie just to put the damn Skull on his chest.

13:48 ‘Ultra Stereo’ was a cheaper, licence free alternative to Dolby Stereo used by a lot of lower budget movies in the 80s. It was a way of having left, right, centre and rear surround audio channels on a reel in a way that was also compatible with stereo playback. Unfortunately, not a lot of Blu-Rays preserve this. Maniac Cop should have a 4.0 track on the Arrow version like the US release from Synapse does.

I've just noticed even though I've seen that cover art numerous times over the years.. The cover for Scream has Skeet Ulrich with a goatee yet he's clean shaven in the entire movie. So is that just like a stock photo of him they used for the posters/cover art? 😂

The German Punisher is the best disc. The LD of scream is the only official uncut release, it was censored by the MPAA. There is a German and Japanese release. The German is a rip of the LD the JP is the same but they popped it out as anamorphic

Question: are these just collectors items for looking at or do you actually watch these over a 1080p/4K disc?

I watch mine on an old CRT in my spare room but I know a lot of collectors have an upscaler so they can put it straight onto their HDTVs

I love my 4ks don't get me wrong but there's also something to be said about watching a film on LD with all the film grain and scratches still present. I watch films on LD for nostalgia. To have that feeling of a Friday evening as a kid when I'd go and get films from the rental store

ED 2 the jelly pink (not red really) disc is way less rare than the standard disc that came later. It's a great disc but the elite ED1 is better for PQ. However the commentary is exclusively on that disc

Thanks for another LD video! Oh boy do I know the pain of the randomness of LD transfers. 😂 I think of it as being a sort of video archaeologist. You never know what the transfer is going to be like when you put a new disc in. MGM did a harder to find late release of Brain Storm that had a more advanced transfer with the ratios and an ac3 track if you ever find one to compare with.

I buy the LD editions of the films I,ve got on BR 4K and I enclosed them on the inner protective carpet of the LD , so I, ve got the quality of the New formats and at the same time I enjoy the beautiful huge LD edition with the original poster and original art of the films . Nonsense? Maybe.
