Your openness about this really helped me help my daughter who, at 26, suddenly started discovering bald patches. The MIC had given me a broader understanding of what alopecia meant to young women. Thank you for sharing such a personal thing on such a public forum.

Hi, just wanted to say Thank You for posting this video . I am sure it will help lot's of people who suffer with this as I do. All my hair went in February this year. Within 3 weeks, starting as you said with a 2 pence piece size bald patch. Went to see the Doctor who could offer only a blood test and printed out a leaflet from the internet and sent me home. I am 58 years old, having never dyed, permed or treated my hair, felt left out in the wilderness and rather stunned. Having had much stress in my life think this was the cause.. I wear wig's of all lengths and colours, have bought magnetic eyelashes, (best thing's ever) and draw on my eyebrows. Am learning a lot with all this about different make up choices etc. It has taught me a lot about me, and I do go out without a wig, as well. All i can say is embrace it, and don't let it define who you are.

Thank you for talking about this. I have struggled with thinning hair and hair loss since I was 22 and have only recently felt that I am in the position to do something about it. I’ve had comments from people for years and it send me into a tailspin of humiliation and self doubt that I have to be dragged out of and to the extent I avoided hairdressers for years in case they said something. I’m using regain at the personal recommendation of my GP who allowed me to weep and removed her hair piece to show me how she also experiences this and I am taking monthly photos to track any changes. I don’t even watch MIC but clicked onto this and wanted to say a huge thank you for being so open about it. Many thanks Alexx

I would never have guessed that you are wearing a wig, you look fantastic Olivia. Respect to yourself for using your platform to help others in the same situation as yourself with alopecia.

It's so nice when you hear someone is going through the same but is so positive about it. Iv had alopecia since I was around 13, I'm 33 now and currently have about 70% loss. I started wearing wigs about 2 years ago and it was the best thing I ever done! Thanks for sharing your story x

My hair loss is hereditary or so I was told by dermatologist and as soon as those words came out of her mouth it instantly broke me further than I thought I could ever be broken. I cried unbearably for weeks and just wanted to die. ( i still do) and people think i am just being naive but it’s my confidence. I’m a natural redhead, that itself comes with so much bullying like you wouldn’t believe. All I want it to have a full head of my natural hair, and to own it like a boss. I’m tired of cancelling plans because I don’t feel confident enough to go out in daylight unless i.m covered by a beanie hat or baseball cap. I always sit at the back of the bus so nobody has to look at my balding head it is tearing me apart. The only thing I was offered by NHS was a wig if I felt it was getting worse but I’d rather have the problem addressed and fixed so I can live the rest of my life. I’m almost 46 and a hair transplant would be a solution but I could never afford one. My life is ruined, I don’t think men realise how much of a comfort blanket a woman’s hair is 😢

I'm so sorry xx You are so brave to discuss this , not every lady feels able to. There are so many natural wigs that ppl would never know you are wearing them, please please don't lose hope. You can embrace your thinning hair or wear a wig, whatever u feel most comfortable with. But Kevin think it's important to remember your hair does not define you. I'm glad I'm in my thirties and not stuck with a problem in school knowing how cruel children can be, you have this benefit. You can do whatever you like and honestly hold your head up high , wear flattering make up and dress in your favourite clothes just going to the shops! Do whatever you like because you answer to no one. Never ever think your not good enough because of this. If your hair is bob length even with patches you can get extensions if ur willing to shop around for the best price. If your problem is worse or extensions are too expensive and time consuming you could possibly try fake ponytails like on Lauren from TOWIE'S site, fake buns and fake plaits they look so natural in every colour and easy to put in, they even show a tutorial how to do it. But if not, if it's wigs or nothing , as I said earlier in the comment hair doesn't define you. If the current things in place can't help you at least know there are MILLIONS of ladies just like you in every country struggling and hating themselves, isn't it time to stop hating yourself for something you did not choose and cannot change? ? 😢❤ See a therapist if you feel you need to talk to someone, get the hurt out, or see a tricologist, (I think that's the right term for a scalp and hair doctor). .see if there is medications that can help you. If so, great give them a chance! 😊 If not , don't despair. You are unique and beautiful as you are, don't let anyone try and tell you different. Sorry for long comment, but you sounded sad to me 😟 (hugs). Reply if u ever want to chat again, just remember many women are walking around wearing wigs, extensions and hairpieces due to partial or total hair issues. And you cannot tell. So you need not feel alone or feel less confident, many ladies feel just like you xx xx👍 💜 Take Care of yourself 💕

@Marion yes men know because it is the same for us also hair makes up 90 percent of a PERSON'S appearance it doesn't matter male or female. Women need to know this and stop trying to play it off like its different for them . I have the se feelings as you do and so do many men.

The doctors they do nothing. I've been few times to GP over 2 years to talk about my hair loss. Been told to check my iron level. But when it came back "normal" they just ignored me. I kept going and asking to maybe check sth else, e.g. hormones, other vitamines, I don't know... But I been told it is normal to women to lose hair. I am fed up with my lonely battle.

Save up some money and see a specialist. GPs are absolutely useless most of the time. And you are never alone

Thank you for talking about the issue of hair loss, which is hugely distressing for many of us. I'm suffering this, from years of serious illness and probably also side-effects of drugs. Liv is one of my fave cast members of M.I.C.

1:03 I swear these contraceptives pills is like a double edge sword it can be beneficial but there is so many side effects that many women suffer from because it messes up their natural state. But I’m a man and don’t really understand fully but I know many women tell me it’s like a double edge sword, again maybe I’m wrong. Plus it’s awesome that Liv is talking about struggles through alopecia

I absolutely hate going to the hairdressers because they are so judging! They need educating on how to speak to people who have hair loss. Great work Olivia!!!!! Keep talking.
