No questions asked about her greatest performance in The Heiress! It was a terrific story and the casting was perfect. She won her 2nd academy award for The Heiress. Why no interest in that great film? Disappointed all the interest seemed to be in Gone With The Wind, but what about The Dark Mirror, The Snake Pit, To Each His Own?

Interesting how Olivia de Havilland stood up to the contract system and went to court to fight for herself against the movie moguls in Tinsel town. (David vs Goliath) Amy Irving standing up for Barbara Streisand and her husband Steven on the situation for directors. Film making not the picnic we think it is. One of the immortals.

At the beginning the man Olivia is referring to is the director John Huston.

I remember this miniseries! Omar Sharif, Claire Bloom, Rex Harrison and Susan Lucci were in it as well.

Amy Irving's face throughout this episode was priceless. She looked pissed. And I can't blame her, Donahue was a dick to her and then the whole episode was about Olivia when they were there to promote "Anastasia" where Amy was the lead.

22:34 Of course, Olivia wouldn't entertain a question about Joan Fontaine.

I always enjoyed Donahue. The research for this guest was sloppy. Pretty clear nobody in the booth had seen Olivia’s films. Even Phil didn’t have the best knowledge of GWTW. Love OD. Fun to see her again.

I have often wondered why Donehues staff did such poor background research on their guests. This was insulting and cringy and reminds me why I thought his show was overrated. He should have apologized to both guests.

I cannot believe how many icons this man said so many stupid things to in his time. My gosh. He has a literal (at the time) living iconic indisputable *LEGEND* right in front of him. He is, in this moment, one degree of separation away from everybody from Gable to Flynn to Davis to Fontaine to Hattie McDaniel. A woman who quite literally dismantled the infrastructure of the system she was a part of for all but twenty of its earliest years, so much so that she has an actual viable *law* named after her. One of the most naturally beautiful women who ever lived who also happened to be a volcanic talent. The winner of two Oscars long before anybody besides Bette and Katherine and Spencer achieved such a feat. A woman who threw interracial parties at a time when such a thing was hardly the standard and counted among her dearest friends people like Lena Horne, Judy Garland and Humphrey Bogart and James Cagney. Somebody who was already one of the last standing cast members of the biggest movie ever produced up to this point (do I even need to say it?). And what does he do? Immediately fumble the ball by making a sex joke right to the face of an octogenarian with grace and style and good comportment and impeccable manners and breeding who came from a time where nobody would ask about, let alone discuss, such things. Completely surprised Olivia didn’t just quietly get out of her seat and wave him off as she made for the back of the stage. I’d give anything to be able to talk to her for thirty minutes. Donahue was wild man. Like, a literal awkward “lol.”

PD obviously did not see the film if he could not remember why Scarlet showed up at the party in a vixen red dress! Geezzz!

They don't talk much about their current film Anastasia, which is worth seeing (free on youtube). It's the somewhat true story of the Anastasia imposter who in real life was a total loon. 29:00 She didn't need a casting couch to get a part. Many others did, and decades later pretend it was quid and no pro quo.

Looking back these interviews seem trite. Miss DeHavilland is an American legend. I can’t watch this. Sorry.
