@@wplains Actually the race is not the problem, as star crossed lovers exist in every society and Shakespeare speaks to the heart of the human condition no matter where it may be. No, what Makes the relationship between Romeo and Juliet work is that they should both be very young. It strains credulity if they are older, as with this first love everything happens so quickly, when they fall, they fall completely. Older people would be more circumspect, so the headlong impetus and vulnerability of youth is what makes their story so touching, and Olivia was perfect in that regard.
