J'ai eu la chance d'assister à une de ses prestations au theatre de la ville à Paris il y a au moins ving cinq ans ,il était tellement amusant à regarder ,et je vois qu'il est toujours jeune, spontané et encore plus talentueux

Artistically I don't know, but his detached technique is unparalleled in the world, maybe history, including GG. Just from a technical POV.

@michail2406 I agree totallt about memorization, but we little guys don't ever have the luxury of pulling out music. we have to prove ourselves over and over again just to even get noticed. If WE started using music for standard concerti, we would be laughed at and seen as lacking. I guarranty you that. Granted, they MAY have the luxury, but I still feel even at their levelnof career, it is a bad choice unless you are 70 or 80 yes old

Then u will miss a big repertoire. Do not suffer from pride of memory. If ppl want music, you play with music.

A refreshing interpretation, rather eccentric, and I don't think it's to the pianist's advantage to play this concerto from the score. I find many of the tempi too slow, and Mustonen's constant detached touch seems quite limited. I think it's a misconception to play Prokofiev so crisp and non-legato ALL the time. On the other hand, he has a great sense of rhythm.

So the world will never hear unplayed pieces if u deman they throw away the score.

No - - not quite good enough. He needs to raise his arms much higher, and the shaking and twitching of the head isn't nearly as obvious as it should be.

the pianist should have this memorized or get off the stage. at this level there is no justification to require music. the overly exaggerated movements used by the pianist are extremely annoying and unnecessary.

I can't agree with you completely on this. In some respects you have understand these are touring pianists and if this work was not something they had in repertoire from a young age and/or they are freshly learning it for a new concert series... the short frame of time to memorize such a demanding work from the onset, will be difficult. Memorization is not something you pull out your ass ...It is a long process and it takes getting to know the work. And most times they have a good amount of it in the head... use of music in this instance is a matter of reference so as to ensure he is on track. Just something to think about.

Richter was always using a score at the end of his career due to the fact that it was impossible to rememember every detail in a score.

To play by memory is not the guarantee to make music at all. There is no rules like that !

Who are you to decide what a pianist should or should not do? A pianist makes music, so listen to music. Nobody cares if the pianist uses or does not use the sheet music. Most important - to make great music. And the gesture is not unnecessary at all, but aimed at the sound.
