No need, the rowing machine is nailed to the floor and he's pushing the Earth each stroke with his legs :)
@typxxilps4 жыл бұрын
He is a really tall guy with over 200 cm an the efficiency of strokes on the water is decreasing cause the angle of attack is getting worser the longer the strokes get. Therefore he is on the water almost upright the whole stroke and it looks very short but in fact it is not. i do not know but it seems he does not change his behaviour on the erg in favour of longer stroke and lower stroke rate...
@CJ95ZZ4 жыл бұрын
It could be just what feels comfortable for him. Isn't Cam the same height as Ollie and he has noticeably more layback. Sometimes it's also based on leverages. Mo Sbihi is also one the taller rowers out there and he has relatively little leg compression and more leanback because you can see he has a much longer torso to leg length ratio. If he was finishing with a straight back, he wouldn't be able to get the same amount of length.

@CameronBuchan4 ай бұрын

@CarlFredrik-uo1cu4 ай бұрын
@@CameronBuchan Thanks, I'm a nerd when it comes to those statistics. I know a couple of stats from rowing legend Olaf Tufte, he's a hero here in Norway (2 Olympic golds and 2 world championships gold in the single sculls. As well as a bronze in the double sculls at age 40. 7 (!) Olympics in total.) His best times are 5:44 in the 2000m erg, and 15:10 in the 5000m erg. Had a VO2max of 76-77ml/kg/min (7.2-7.3L), and a lung capacity of 7.19L in his prime. Lifting PBs include 140kg (308lbs) in the bench press, 185kg (407lbs) in the squat, and 240kg (529lbs) in the deadlift. In a Norwegian TV show (Don't remember the name, but it was on the channel TV2) he did 28 consecutive pullups in his late 30s. Really impressive when you're that tall and heavy (193/6'4, 95kg/209lbs) One of Tufte's main rivals, Ondrej Synek said in an interview that he had done 5:41 in the 2000m erg, and 18:11 in the 6000m erg. edit: I have also read several places that "New Zealand sculler Rob Waddell has one of the highest absolute V̇O2 max levels ever tested." (Waddell has done 5:36.6 in the 2k and 14:58.3 in the 5k) But the values/numbers are never mentiond, it's really frustrating. I'd love to know.
@CarlFredrik-uo1cu4 ай бұрын
If you use this VO2max calculator www.concept2.co.uk/indoor-rowers/training/calculators/vo2max-calculator, with Tufte's stats (5:44, 95kg, male, highly trained) you get 74.74ml/kg/min. So it seems pretty accurate, considering Tufte was reported at 76-77.

I wonder if his style limits his potential on the static 2k erg. Relative to his longer ergs the 2k is not as strong. It's not a critique at all as his static 2k score is probably not his focus, but it looks as though he could improve it if he rowed a bit longer
@typxxilps4 жыл бұрын
He does not care about that. He wants to become an olympic champ , nothing else. And a longer stroke does not work for him in the single at his size cause angle of attack gets worser the longer his stroke would get. At the catch of a long stroke he could put bring the skulls close to parallel to the shell and then his catch power would not propell. At the end of the day the olympic gold medall is what counts for him ... and there after he might do other attempts on the erg and adopt the style Erg records need. At least he should be able to train on the water in Munich cause lock down is eased a bit and rowing the single the easiest way of protection as long the rowing club allows him to row or open the gates for him cause that is the critical part that other club members wanted to follow ... at least here in the north were things had been not so serious as in Bavaria in the south close to italy ... Here the rowing clubs were mostly closed and the pros who wanted to row on water needed permissions, each of them.
