Here's another project based on the HRE research, which as seen in the most recent community post, is complete is 9 of the 11 regions (with the 10th nearly complete). Correction regarding this video: The Fricktal area was ceded to Switzerland in 1803; it shouldn't be shown as part of Germany beyond that point. Unfortunately I only noticed this after uploading, but it has no effect on Bavaria.

2:11 That moment when Lower Bavaria is more North than Upper Bavaria and when Upper Bavaria is more South than Lower Bavaria.
@dimzaytsev405217 күн бұрын
Yep, and what is wrong with it? Those upper/lower distinctions are not about the place on the map, but about the natural features of the land. Roughly put, upper Bavaria is more mountainous than lower one.
@TheEbrithil216 күн бұрын
It's not about north and south but about elevation, upper bavaria is closer to the alps.
@Red_Oak.16 күн бұрын
Thank you both for educating me on the topography and geography of Bavaria. I didn't know that but now I do. /srs /gen (This is not sarcasm.)
@henricoz_974513 күн бұрын
Usually, when a region or a city is called "lower" is because it's positioned to the north of another region that is called "upper". As far as I know, it's a legacy of the ancient way of reading maps, that is, backwards from south to north. Therefore in Greek and Roman maps, Lower Bavaria would have been more south that the Upper one. But I could be wrong about this.
@CarpeVerpa11 күн бұрын
@henricoz_9745 I can't find any examples of this. In every case I know of, Lower or Upper is used in relative geographic terms, rather than a north or south context. For example, Upper and Lower Egypt are called so because Lower Egypt is at the end of the course of the Nile, where it's more flat, while Upper Egypt is closer to where the Nile flows down from the highlands.
