Right, that's inspired me to get back in the water. Have been sticking to the hunting but it's time to add a bit of fish & other adventures to the diat. Moved to Dunedin a few years back & have only had one dive... Came across around 300 paua on one rock all of size without even taking a measure... That was a bucket list thing I had always wanted to see.

mainly just look for days when there hasn't been swell or wind pumping in recently, spring is normally the cleanest water as far as I've experienced but honestly just try moving spots can be like soup in one spot and clear as 500m down the coast
@chrisstapleton12972 жыл бұрын
Recent big downpours can also result in silt in the harbours which reduces visibility. So always give it a while after big rainstorms.
@olliecraig-primalpursuit2 жыл бұрын
Anywhere close to Auckland central is dirty water from all the runoff, silt from construction, etc etc and harbours/type of geology in the area. Really you need to travel up towards Leigh coast to start getting some cleaner water. After heavy rain and swell is usually a no go for a few days close in. Check cawthron eye satellite images and have a play around you will see the water colouration. Leering your local areas help. Head north or coro, more fish too

Hey Ollie , i watch a lot of your videos but see that you rarely encounter sharks. Where you dive you should have bronze whaler sharks and other nz species right ?
@lewispeart23442 жыл бұрын
I think Bronzies tend to swarm up in a few places in particular around the East Coast, but closer to the deeper water.
@aranha93652 жыл бұрын
Yep, I was thinking the same, it seems he edit the bronzes so they appear as snapper on the videos Lol
@rorynesta77662 жыл бұрын
in one of his older videos,he was spearfishing with his friend and Ollie speared a kingy and the bronzies went wild on the kingy and ate it.All that was left was a bent spear.
@olliecraig-primalpursuit2 жыл бұрын
We mostly have bronze whalers with a few makos out wide in summer months and rare sightings of great whites. The bronzies tend to congregate in certain areas I’ve found. Often actually in places where ‘noobies’ go funnily enough. Hot spots where rod fisherman go seems to be very sharky for both reasons that where there are a lot of fish there’s obviously sharks but also the sharks are learning in some spots how to get a quick free east feed

Just do it. People love authenticity, so never try and be what you think others want you to be, always be yourself. Good luck.
@roilhead2 жыл бұрын
As per Soprtys comment. Get out there & do it. It's your angle that makes the difference. One thing that Ollie dies well is that he bangs it alone surviving, prospering & getting a buzz off his own back. You may have a different angle to hook the punters.
@benrist24822 жыл бұрын

If you want to start a channel make sure you want to make one for the right reasons. I just made a channel to share my adventures, never thinking it would be this big. As said by others, be yourself, Never try try to be someone who you are not and you will be more successful in all areas of life including a KZbin channel if you be authentic. Look for your own angle. At end of the day if you want to do it just give it a crack get started and learn as you go, most peoples first videos suck (well mine did) but it is fun and great to have all memories documented not just sitting on a hard drive so it’s a win regardless!
