Great vid! I have a question, is it possible to set say syntakt working via overbridge as master for ableton? So that I set my tempo and launch track on syntakt and not in ableton?)

Yes, you can set midi preferences on the devices and in Ableton.

How does the monitoring works in Standalone Overbridge? Are the monitor outputs routed to Mac’s system output so then you can hear that via UAD Console? Or do you need to set the connected device as Mac’s system output interface? In other words, without using a DAW, can you use Elektron device as input routed to Apollo as output?

Overbridge streams audio to and from the device and computer. It’s latency free, or in my experience imperceptible. You can monitor on the device, or via an audio interface. I believe they are both live simultaneously.

I have a Syntakt that is known to be Analog too, could you tell me if the sound quality changes if I want to enter the DAW through USB or if I do it through line output to my audio interface?

There is likely no difference in sound quality going through the DAW. The device has an internal sound card, converting from digital to analog and vise versa. You should not have to use your sound card for this purpose.

I have a digitakt and two synths connected via input L & R. Im using Digitakt as an external mixer for recording through ableton but, when I record im getting latency and dont know how to fix it? Any ideas?

Are you using it as an audio output as well, or a different interface. What’s the rest of the setup. There are audio settings within the control center app. You could try adjusting the buffer settings. If that doesn’t help, I would suggest contacting Elektron’s support.

Thank you so much for the video. I haven't buy Digitakt yet but I wonder, is there a way to simply drag and drop samples from a DAW to Digitakt via overbridge? Or you have to transfer it to the disk on DT?

Overbridge has a file browser to import samples. You can also just presets in Overbridge making it convenient.

@@GG-wx8en That's not my understanding. Check out the Overbridge manual, section 6.5.3 Sound Browser within the Digital Plugin chapter. It describes loading sounds.

Hey, I just bought Digitakt and there is no way to put sample from DAW onto Digitakt.@@OllieLoops You can use recording function and sample from your DAW onto DIgitakt. Also, transfer app is not hard to use but obviously not fast as using sampler inside the DAW :)

In my experience, as well as it is designed, OB is useless for both recording and live performance (as an Ableton live user). I've resorted to only recording via the direct outputs. I'm open to hearing work arounds and I've yet to try OB 2.5.1 but... Recording: the latency is too much to comfortably record as you have to manually move the USB recordings back each time. Live performance: same problem except it's worse as having the OB plugins moves everything else back in time as well (with DC enabled).

Interesting. I haven’t experienced much it any latency. What’s your audio interface?

@@OllieLoops MOTU4pre, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't affect latency when using OB as a plugin. It's using the A4mk2 as an interface, and the only way I can get acceptable latency is by recording through the analog outputs. I've heard it does better in other DAWs such as Bitwig though.

@@Tapepusher Understood. Have you set up Driver Error Compensation in Ableton? I do this for any interface that I use the input on. This allows you to correct for latency in your system. help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000234830-Driver-Error-Compensation-FAQ Are you tracking through the A4mkii? I'm trying to understand your signal path / what you're trying to do.

If you are still having this issue, just live record the multitracks into the standalone over bridge device. Hit the little tape icon at the top right and it will bring up a multitrack recorder. Select all the tracks, hit record and then press play on your machine and jam away. Then import the wav files into the DAW set to the same BPM, trim the blank space to start and line up the drum hits to the grid. This is a workflow I use all the time, and it's very easy and less involved than having to worry about latency..etc.

Hey, yes, I've DEC set up correctly, but the OB plugin has its own latency regardless of what you set in Live's preferences. I beleive the latency with OB in Live is inevitable, it's just the cost of getting the multitracks into Live for now. Sorry for not replying before, and thanks for responding!@@OllieLoops

No. Overbridge doesn't have recording or tracking functions. It must be used with a DAW to record, sequence and track.

Be warned with the analog heat overbridge reduces volume and adds a load of noise (confirmed multiple times on the elektron forums). Something with the ADC. Using the analog outs this doesn’t happen and much better with reducing latency

Great video but I’ve just never understood the benefit of Overbridge aside from multi-track recording. I watched this to see if something here could change my mind but I don’t think so. Firing up the computer, opening the the DAW, making audio/midi tracks, etc etc… this is a way slower start up period. And while the visuals are nice it’s a very aesthetic plugin), I don’t feel like I can move the mouse to the tabs and parameters I wish to adjust quicker than I can press the page buttons on the Elektron boxes and turn the needed encoders. Using an Elektron box as a sound module really defeats like 50% of its purpose if not more because it’s a way better sequencer than a piano roll in the DAW. I guess DAW advantage would be quick to draw in velocities and what not but if you miss out on all the parameter locking you’d be better off just sampling with your DAW which is way more power of a sampler than the Digitakt if you’re not planning on using it’s sequencing abilities. Anyway… whatever. Each unto their own. Clearly I’ve decided Overbridge is not for me. As always though, excellent video.

Thanks for your honest feedback. I'm not sure the percentage, but let's say that 20-40% of users may like and take advantage of Overbridge. The question for them is, what does that hybrid workflow look like. I can't answer that, I can only present some ideas. Personally, I think having an Analog Heat and primarily working in a DAW makes Overbridge a must have for that workflow. That holds the most value for me personally. Ultimately, I'm trying to teach a wide range of users about gear and ways to use it that may inspire them to make music. With that said, I'm curious to hear from you about gear you use, the type of music you make, and what videos you'd like to see me make. Feel free to email me or continue this comment thread. @@OllieLoops I am creating virtual instruments for my app so I am doing sound design on the analog rytm and then sampling in ableton and take those samples to create the aupreset for my app. overbridge also saves me inputs in audio interface or mixer.

There’s an app that needs to be installed called Elektron Engine. That handles USB communication between the device and the computer. Is that installed and does your Digitakt appear in Engine?
