In the final episode on this little cupboard build I complete the construction and finishing of the door and then install it at the customers house. I haven’t got great photos/video of it fitted so perhaps keep an eye on my Instagram for some photos of it in the future!

Great craftsmanship, knowledge and application, with the best materials. You should have a teaching qualification too. From apprentice to master. I hope the new owners of the door and face frame jamb combination, appreciate the level of detail and experience goes into creating bespoke furniture like this. I’m sure it’s worth more than the price you charged. Superb …

Top tip - when you transfer the marks for the frame hinges on to the frame (roughly 26 mins into you vid) use a chisel and lay the flat end on the edge (back of chisel) of the door hinge edge - kind of roll it onto the edge of the frame to only mark 1 -2 mm (no more than depth of hinge rebate. Marks it perfectly - like using a marking knife.~ Also I have seen so Many doors cut square at the 'leading edge' probably because of the common use of electric planes to fit doors now. Lots of people would probably appreciate knowing how simple that is to do - especially with a hand plane :)

Brilliant! So you don’t worry too much about squaring up the doors at glue up? Just trim them dead square later on panel saw👍🏻 Nice! Eliminating a bit of stress. It would need to be pretty shonky for anyone to pick any variation in top and bottom rail from one side to other ( non parallel)
@BradshawJoinery
@BradshawJoinery 4 жыл бұрын
Yes and no on the squaring. Ive found from experience if the joint look right and your kit is square you have to try quite hard to knock it out of square.... so i generally trust it and check where necessary or where the fit is critical. The panel saw sizing just helps keep fitting spot on. very easy to plane a casement to fit a frame and the frame be slightly out of square..... hence if you know the door is perfect when fitting you can adjust the frame to suit and you have a perfectly parallel and square opening. Just need to take care on edge cuts that the blade doesnt deflect across the width of a door,

So nice! Hope you will one day make a traditional external oak door! Want to make a new front door for my house, but very uncertain how to go about it with floating panels and avoid water ingress..
@BradshawJoinery
@BradshawJoinery 4 жыл бұрын
When i have one to make i will, but its much the same process. bed the panel in on some flexible sealant, quite often they are beaded in from the inside so if you do get an issue you can remove beads and reseal panel! Still possible if grooved in, just cut moulding off remove panel then use beading to replace on inside. ideally the panel wants a flat part where it enters the groove to allow movement

@@BradshawJoinery I am making a painted finish external door at the moment it is 1m wide by 2.8m tall! 4 raised panels and two lights at the top, what sealant do you suggest is best for the panels and is it better to prime the panels before glueing up? Love your videos mate absolutely top notch! Very difficult to find good joinery info and resources these days I'm trying to search for some good old joinery books too, I didn't have the best apprenticeship, so I'm trying my best to self-improve!

Beautiful craftsmanship. What kind of stain and clear wax did you use?
@BradshawJoinery
@BradshawJoinery 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Gary, from memory, it was a chestnut spirit stain i mixed myself from a few colours, i think mainly english walnut and a oak colour. the wax is again chestnut, but a hardwax oil, bit like applying a teak oil, but its similar qualities to a lacquer in that it dries fast.

Hi mate, hope your well?? I have a question in regards to panel saws and I'm interested in your opinion. I have always used a table saw and added sleds/jigs etc to cut sheet material and timber stock. Im considering purchasing a sliding panel saw, only thing I'm not keen on is the floor space it takes up. I notice you use the vertical wall saw and wondered your reason for it? Does it give a good splinter free cut on both sides of plywood etc? Is there any maintenance or things that need replacing regularly on them? I really like the space saving and convineance of the vertical panel saw I'm just not experienced at using this type of machine. Would appreciate your thoughts on why you use it and what you think of them overall. Kind regards from Perth Australia.

They work really well for big cuts and sheets. Incredibly accurate and easy to use. Bit of a pain turning sheets to reference from a clean cut edge but it's as much effort as getting a sheet flat on a panel saw I think. You can't do bevel or angle cuts on them which is a big downfall. If you just want accurate square cuts then that are great. Perfect for my carcass production. You can get ones with a pre scoring cutter head I think 👍. For me it's perfect. I only do square cuts, I don't use it that often but wouldn't be without it. I defimi6 cannot warrant a big table saw capable of 8x4 sheets in my workshop space. I'd deffo have one if I had the space though!

@@BradshawJoinery I agree 100% I guess it one of those things we always do no matter what we purchase, we will always feel we need another machine to make life easier 😂😂 I have felder coming out in the next few weeks to go through there panel saw options he believes for me as a single operator non production based work the hammer k4 is a good all round option. Will see what happens 😀👍
