I had a temperamental paper injector on an SG1 that I was trying to fix up. Went the exact same way! First the gears not engaging at all, no idea why. I messed with it, fiddled with it, blew it out with compressed air and all the sudden it’s working perfectly again. These machines really do have minds of their own!

Seeing those hands, fine surgery is not the first that comes to mind. But will you look at that... Bravo, maestro!

Great video! Thanks, sir. It's gratifying to see a pro have one of those, "Gee, what did I do right?" moments like the rest of us.

I replaced the paper release lever on my Quiet-Riter but this looks a lot more involved. I found an electronics KZbinr for how to deal with the E clip.

Hey Joe! I recently acquired a similar machine but the lesser model without the paper injector. You probably know… isn’t this actually a SG-1 ? I thought the 1 was the older machine and the 3 was the more modern-looking version of the SG. (Video title calls it a 3.)

@BooksForever the paper injector is not what makes the model. The SG-1 has a very different look from the SG-3. Best way for you to compare models is to look in the typewriter database.

@@AtelierDBurgoyne My only point about the paper injector was in the interest of full disclosure not to give an impression that i had the high-end version of this model. But my 1 vs 3 question stands. Although we only see the carriage here, it looks like it could belong to any one of the SG-1s I’ve seen but to none of the SG-3s. I suspect a title typo, unless I’m completely wrong about everything i thought i knew.

@@BooksForever the knobs of the carriage in the video are clearly for an SG-3. No mistake. If the carriage of your SG-1 has the same knobs, then you have an SG-3 carriage on your SG-1.

@@AtelierDBurgoyne Thanks for directing my attention specifically to the knobs. My serial number had long ago confirmed SG-1 status, and my knobs (I double checked just now) are indeed different. I was influenced by what looked to be a crinkled powder coating on the carriage chassis as well as the empty bracket for the typically missing paper support; I didn’t think those features mapped onto the 3s. Clearly, the 3s spanned a larger spectrum than my exposure to-date has absorbed. Thanks again. And I’ve coined a new motto for myself: don’t judge a model by its carriage.

(Grr! HRMPH! *muttering-and-light-cursing*) "Okay, I have NO IDE----So when you see this issue, it works just like so. Fast, easy fix! Thanks for watching!" 🤣😂

I reject a lot of videos I take if they don't go right the 1st take, almost canned this one for the camera error and that issue at the end. Upon review off camera, ether that part was binding and when I re-did the clip fixed it or it was sticking slightly

@@phoenixtypewriter2136 It's just the typical thing we all experience, 30 minutes of "YOU @&*%)* PART! GET IN THERE!" and then when it finally does go in, we look at it and wonder why we couldn't get it right in the first place!
