I wonder if you put a makeshift greenhouse over it in early spring if it would give it a jump start. Like put rebar in the ground now. Then in spring use pvc pipe to make hoops. Then greenhouse fabric on top. I’m thinking of doing this with my one of my fig trees this fall. Or next spring plant it.

Omg…it’s awesome that you suggested that because I AM going to do that! They call it a solar greenhouse. I ordered heavy duty plastic tarp and rebar hook stakes! My plan is to build up the wall about another 3 layers on the back side so that it captures the sun all day long and keeps the heat within. I’ll fill it with leaves this fall and maybe throw a blanket over. What do you think? I’m hoping it’s easy and doable for people in our climate.

@@afig3539 I think it’s a great plan. It may still die to the ground but it probably will give them a big jump start in the spring. Put some mint garlic to keep out mice & other creatures. (Heard it helped)

@catherineshiddengarden2596 great thinking! I also need to make sure I leave a couple of openings in the bricks for air circulation. I’m really excited! I hope, I hope I don’t kill my Negronne and RdB!!!

@@afig3539 well you can always take cuttings off of those two and save them. And if it does kill the mother plant, then you have cuttings to root.

I have one fig that turned into being a english brown turkey type who has very similar leaves to my olympian. My olympian produced its first figs, they dont form well, the bottom gets red orange when fully ripe the rest remin juicy white but it taste exactly the same as my EBT, but the the EBT forms correctly and the inside is all amber/orange, its juicier more like honey vs olympian more sugary. Im keeping the EBT because it my mother’s first fig tree, that never gave fruit til i learned figs last winter, so it gave its first figs, 40-50 of them.

Thats exactly what I was worried about this Olympian - was that it may be a brown turkey! For a second, I forgot I was talking about the Olympian thought I was talking about the BT. That’s why I said it’s taste like the ones in stores. I only realized after the fact that it’s not supposed to taste like that! 🤣
