Dude, what? She got the Olympic bid because she trained her ass off after not having skated for a year, being the first woman ever to land a triple Axel, and winning the US title with the highest technical score in 20 years. She skated at the Olympics in damaged skates with a broken lace and that’s why she finished 8th.

@@jenniferh.2150 lmao laces for blades aren't expensive, and the broken lace incident from her long program didn't cause her mess up two jumps in her short program. Broken blades, laces, costume malfunctions - no other amateur skater has ever had that many mishaps in 2 years of competitive skating. If only Tonya had put the effort into training that she did putting on shows for people.

Her performance was awful. Plus, she stopped what she was doing to show the judges her laces were untied & she had to retie them. All in front of cameras. Unheard of! Everyone else was prepared. Now, again, it’s everybody else’s fault.

There are other training expenses. I know she had disagreements with them on how the money was to be spent. Probably having to do with their “over head”. She likely was feeling ripped off because they were collecting money for *her* benefit.

Jealous of what? Tonya was so much better than Nancy ever was. The only difference was, Tonya came from a broken family, was a domestic violence survivor and everyone looked down on her because of it. America wanted someone with a wholesome well to do family who could represent the country, that's the only category Nancy fit in. She always had it easier than Harding.

Human beings are complicated. I think Tonya had the odds stacked against her from the beginning. She also had personality flaws that worked against her, too. It's also entirely possible she was both afraid to reveal what she knew about her abusive ex, AND secretly pleased her rival was out of the way. It's a shame, all around. With the right guidance, she had a lot to offer the sport.

Harding made USA Female Championship History with her triple axial...she was never given credit for her accomplishments. She never had the sponsorship need to compete at that level. She had lesser equipment and made her own costumes, faced so msny obstacles including having asthma...with all of those obstacles she out skated all of them all and made history. To think of she had had the support the otgers had the USS would have had the Gold, Silver,& Bronze at the Olympics
