Thanks Aly for giving insight on importance of nutrition and not fearing carbs. Balance has got to be important. Thanks.

It's allll about moderation and portion control people! People try to starve themselves and that's just not needed.

All that looks wonderful, satisfying and delicious. What Aly forgot to mention that unlike most people who spend 7-8 hours a day in front of their screens sitting in an office, cubicle or home office, she spends 7-8 hours a day training in the gym. She "works" in the gym people. 40 hours or more per week so all that food does balances out. And some of us don't have an Olympic athlete metabolisms either.

Why are people surprised to find out that athletes eat? We need fuel... eating is a huge part of any sport

They're surprised when gymnasts and skaters or for that matter dancers eat a lot due to the reputation for restrictive diets in those worlds. For that matter also people are always surprised when they find out thin people eat.

Is this what she eats now or when she was training? It doesn't actually seem like a lot of food for someone who was training 7+ hours a day...

I was a gymnast. I was a bigger built girl like some of the Brits. And tall. I don't think I ate that much every day. I was told I was too heavy. But that happened from doing a very low calorie diet a couple years before. I had become thin, but I was starving, and chewing maybe 20 or more pieces of gum per day. Ruined my metabolism. Now I am thin again, but mainly from being past menopause. Body changed. Food is only part of the equation.

Tell it Aly! Why don't people want to eat carbs?! You need them!

I think it was Chellsie Memmell who said in interview that she ate fruit and chicken and nothing else. Even in fictional representations athletes have some crazy diets. Like in Ice Princess, one of the skaters doesn't ever eat bread, and another considers a handful of cheese is considered 'pigging out'.

True. You just need to pick which ones you eat like complex carbs that takes a while to get digested thus, making you feel fuller longer.

i totally agree with Aly that carbs, by no means, is your enemy, but only to some extent. too much of carbs in your diet is of course, an enemy to your body. however, if your activities of daily living require you to consume more carbs, go for low glycemic index carbs.

Elena Green that’s not how healthy eating works. You shouldn’t use exercise as an excuse to “burn off” what you eat. You need to eat healthy, balanced meals to properly fuel your body for exercise. Diet and exercise go hand in hand, you won’t see or feel results with just one of them.

No amount of exercise will fix a bad diet. You can’t eat what you want and plan to use exercise to burn it off. Your body doesn’t work like that
@b0rtie
@b0rtie 5 жыл бұрын
elena g Not exactly. Gymnasts don’t actually burn too many calories. They do short bursts of exercise, not like swimmers or long distance runners who burn a lot of calories. Plus, gymnasts tend to want to be as light as possible in order to flip their body weight around in the air multiple times.

Swimming burns way more calories than gymnastics. Swimmers are swimming the whole practice. Gymnastics practices are long but they aren't moving the whole time. I agree the portions are probably small here though. They had like half a cup of ziti pasta which is all air on that plate and it probably is less than 100 calories from carbs just so she can say "I eat carbs". Yeah, she does, but probably more than this. The portions shown are more for non athletes.

“You need carbs... to digest protein.” “So I cut out uhhhh.... what’s it called sugar and my injury got better.” Yeah no shit. An actual fact about this is combining them is worse than consuming either one alone. It’s called AGE’s.

Sprinters don’t need carbs. Different sport use different energy Systems. She doesn’t know what she’s talking about. Not everyone needs carbs. Sports that use an Aerobic energy system needs carbs. I.E 800m, mile 3200, etc. short sprinter that use the anaerobic energy system/ Alatic/glycogen needs protein.
