An Olympic stadium is the site of the opening and closing ceremonies. Many, though not all, of these venues actually contain the words Olympic Stadium as part of their names. Olympic Stadium may also be named a multi-purpose stadium which hosts Olympic sports. In the case of the Summer Olympic Games, athletics competitions and the football final are traditionally held in the Olympic Stadium.

The greeks never used a head in the olympics- in fact, football was ( probably) invented in persia. The Olympic sports were athletics, boxing, wrestling and a horserace with chariots. Playing a sport with a head is an Afghan thingy, i think....

London 2012 Olympic were one of the most successful games. Every sporting venue was full of people watching, including paraOlympic which usually get so much less coverage and audience. Beijing was good too. I was so exited about Tokyo but covid ruined for the athletes as well as for everyone else.

The Maracanã only hosted the opening and closing ceremonies and football at the 2016 Olympics, all the athletics events were at Estadio Nilton Santos, the Botafogo stadium.

A good video! But it's a bit misleading, in my opinion, to say the Panathenaic Stadium dates back to 330BC. Certainly there was a Panathenaic stadium at that site during that period, commissioned by Lykourgas. But what we see is not the original structure. It is the marble rebuild of 144AD by Herodes Atticus, excavated in 1869 for the Zappas Olympics and later refurbished in 1896 for the first modern Olympics. But maybe I'm just splitting hairs :P

Memorial Colisseum in 1932 had about 101.000 and now it has about 71.000... 😔 the plastic chairs added to count how many people are inside the stadium and for convience of corse but less people join the concert. | if Panathenaic stadium was completed( i mean rounded full circle) back then it would still be used to till today somehow and imagine a stadium built 2200 years before first stadiums (1870+330)

The ancient Olympic Games were held in Olympia, in the Peloponnesus peninsula -- NOT in Athens. The Panathenaic Stadium you see today was built the way it is, out of marble, in 1895. There used to be rough seating stands on the hill there -- but the beautiful marble stadium arose in 1895.

Los Angeles built the Coliseum in 1923 (massive for those days if you compare what others had) for the 1932 Olympics. It was host again in 1984, but in 2028 it will co-host with the new $5 billion SoFi Stadium.

The Rio 2016's Olympic Stadium was not Maracanã, just used to to the Ceremonies and football (it even hasnt a track!) . It was Estadio Olimpico João Havelange, a new athletics stadium built to the PanAm Games 2007, now known as Estadio Nilton Santos, a legendary Brazilian football player.

@@giogio9802 δεν γαμήθηκε από τους ολυμπιακούς...από αυτούς που βρήκαν αφορμή τους ολυμπιακούς για να βάλουν χρήμα στις τσέπες γαμήθηκε...τόσες χώρες διοργάνωσαν ολυμπιακούς και δεν χρεοκόπησαν

@@user-vx9sg4zg3u Ναι μόνο που αν δεις όλες οι άλλες χώρες που διοργάνωσαν ολυμπιακούς το κάναν πολύ φθηνότερα στο Πεκίνο πχ που ήταν το 2008 ξόδεψα 6.5 δις και εμείς περίπου 10 λόγω του αεροδρομίου που δεν είχαμε και έπρεπε να φτιαχτεί ώστε να πραγματοποιηθεί η διοργάνωση τους αφού τότε που δηλώσαμε για την φιλοξενία των αγώνων δεν είχαμε τα απαραίτητα προσόντα και αυτό μαζί με κάτι άλλα ανούσια έργα που μετά απλά έμειναν εγκατελειμένα

@@user-vx9sg4zg3u Επειδή ήταν όλα από ατσάλι σίδερο και γενικά μόνιμα κατασκευασμενα υλικά στο πεκινο πχ κατασκευαστηκαν στάδια με υλικά που μπορούσαν να κατά στραφούν μετά χωρίς να κοστίσουν σχεδόν καθολου και στο σιντει η στο Λονδίνο είχαν είδη τα περισσότερα στάδια και χώρους που χρειάζονταν για τη διοργάνωση εδώ που δεν υπήρχε γήπεδο baseball πχ έπρεπε να φτιαχτεί και τώρα είναι εγκατελειμένο. Και εννοείται πως έχεις δίκιο σε αυτό που είπες γιατί εκμεταλλευτηκαν τα κέρδη και ναι ταφαγανε όλα

Should be noted that the 2028 LA Olympics will have two main stadiums, the Memorial Collesium and the cities new SoFi stadium. The Collesium will host the sporting events, whereas SoFi will host the ceremonies.

I think most nations are figuring out that it's not worth the cost. LA swears they can do it in such a cost way in 2028 that it could be a model for following cities, but I am not so sure.

The 2028 Summer Olympics will have their opening and closing ceremonies in two seperate stadiums at once. The LA Memorial Coliseum, and at SoFi Stadium.

Maracanã was the main offical stadium of the 2016 olympics used for the opening and closing ceremony. The other one was just a stadium used for the atheltics.
