Thank you for sharing this footage. I wonder if my dad and his siblings may have been amongst those kids in the clip. Hard to tell by the backs of their heads. 😄 My dad would have been 12 yrs old at the time. My dad and his siblings apparently spent a bit of time around there, at that time. Especially since his mother was working as one of the cleaners in the athletes accommodation, and she received several foreign mementos from some of the athletes she made friends with at that time.

I’ve been there about 8 years now and I didn’t know Olympic park was to close to northland shopping center

There's also an Olympic Park in the city that is more well-known to most Melbournians. The one in West Heidelberg and in the city were both used as training grounds for athletes during the 1956 Olympics.

@@peachyb1969 Played Footy and cricket down there since 1973 and my older brother started there in 1966. Believe it or not this is the first year since 1966 my family haven't had some involvement at Olympic Park WH. My cricket club got moved to Shelley Park while its all being done up. Wont be ready until December 2024 they say. Was pretty sad playing my last game there in February 2021, been retiring every year since 2011 but always play a few games to help out. Saddled up again this year and played a few games at 58 yo. No fool like an old fool they reckon.

The home of the mighty HEIDELBERG UNITED!

Olympic Village has been through a few lives. A home there is probably worth a million plus now.

Yep, the two bedroom unit I have lived in 13 years is valued at 650k. My parents owned the previous house and got an offer from a family friend to sub divide and build 2 units on it. Mum and Dad got one of them but both have since passed on. My family sold their unit and I have rented off the family friend since 2009 so I could help my parents out. I am still here.

The athlete at the start is wearing an Italian top, so why does he speak French to the telephonist?
@peachyb1969 Жыл бұрын
The voiceover mentioned there were 18 different language interpreters. Perhaps they had no Italian interpreters, but he could also speak French. Just assuming. After all, many Europeans can speak multiple languages, with French being very common for many of them to speak.
