The announcer in this series is iconic. Dave Wottle is very modest and unassuming. Whst an incredible role model.

What an inspirational story, persevering through injuries and reaching the pinnacle of an Olympic gold medal. Always admired his modesty and demeanor.

I LOVE this video....this should be shown to every aspiring track runner. One of the most incredible running performances I have ever seen and one of my very favorite races. This gentleman was all heart and had a truly classy spirit. And to come from so far behind with all his obstacles...truly inspiring.

In high school I missed alot of meets because of tendonitis. My senior year my coach said I had a chance for a scholarship, but to get it I had to compete. He gave me Dave Wottle as an example. I competed in pain, and to my surprise I did well. Tendonitis is awful, but it can be overcome.

Dave Wottle was lucky to win really, the Russian was bumped and lost 5-6m and then sprinted to make up and then lost his finish. Very unlucky Russian 🇷🇺 and lucky American 🇺🇸

I love this so much. I wonder if he would have had that little bit more speed if he had not worn his hat. It the end, macht nichts. All hail, Dave.

I was like 10 years old watching this. I was thinking "That guy with the hat is going to finish last." Then when I see him on that back stretch starting to move up, I started cheering for my "underdog."

Back when American parents knew how to raise kids! Other mothers: I'm so proud you won a participation award! Daves Mother: Why didn't you remove your hat for the National Anthem? Todays mothers: Don't forget to kneel in protest when the American Flag is raised.
