I came to watch this video on 6 August 2024 when Chen Ruolin (a 5- time Olympic gold medalist) was the coach to Quan Hongchan, who just won her 3rd Olympic gold medal. Chen Ruolin was a tremendous athlete and now is clearly an equally tremendous coach!

Chrn Ruolin was amazing mentally. I thought that she would fold under the pressure at the end, being just 15. Instead she did an absolutely perfect dive under the most intense pressure an athlete can face.

it's a competition. if you really think about it. diver is judged by his/her performance for each dive. he/she is competing against himself/herself.

Chen hits the water very nicely. You’re not supposed to make a splash theoretically. So, so hard. She also has great body alignment, especially her legs. Toes pointed, legs in a straight line all the way through. I thought Melissa Wu had beautiful movement also.

@@briangmoh5261 I disagree. She entered the water perfectly and had little to no splash at all. You jump from 10 meters into water, there is always gonna be splash but hers was as little as I have ever seen. I think her last jump is definitely a 10 and most of the judges agreed

2008 Men’s 10m Platform Diving please. I was disappointed with Australia’s live telecast where they stopped showing the final part way through. Had to wait for the replay. Such a critical moment for an Aussie gold medal and they cut it... uggghhhh

I totally agree! I tried multiple times over these years to try and find the video of the competition, but couldn't. "Matthew Mitcham, the man who made the chinese cry", that's how italian tv sport journalist defined him that time. In fact, since then, at Beijing 2008, chinese won all the gold medals (even if, in the 10m women, Emilie Heymans was very very close), and they aimed to win all the 8 competitions. The strongest diving team, in their home olympics. As usual, 10m men was the last diving competition, and Matthew won. I'm sorry he had to struggle even before and after that medal, especially on the psychlogical side, but I hope he will find happiness (he recently got married, too).
