The arrival of the Olympic flame in the host country is an iconic moment for every edition of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Before lighting the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony, the flame is carried by torchbearers throughout the host country and into the host city. For Paris 2024, the flame will visit all the regions of France as part of an epic Olympic Torch Relay that will start in April 2024.
The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Torch Relay form two separate chapters of a single story. The first instalment will take place from April 2024 with the Olympic Torch Relay and the second will occur after the Closing Ceremony of the Olympic Games with the Paralympic Torch Relay.
A symbol of unity and peace, the torch spreads the spirit of the Games as it travels around the country, marking the start of celebrations. For the Paris 2024 Games, the Olympic Torch Relay will take place over a three-month period, but the process to select the participants began in September 2023.

In 1992, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) renewed this tradition by calling upon all nations to observe the Truce during the modern Games.
