Male to female athletes is a whole separate issue, but female to male don't have an advantage over biological males, and what everyone who is saying he [Schuyler] is doping needs to realise is that the HRT is only putting his levels of testosterone up to par to that of the average man. Doping is taken very seriously in the Olympics, and were he to go to the Olympics, he would be more highly regulated and subjected to the same doping tests as other athletes. He doesn't have an advantage if he is swimming against males.

Such is the thoughts of most people. "As long as it doesn't effect me, I don't care." Well, my general philosophy is, as long as you're not hurting anyone, do whatever you want. But here we do have a case of injustice. Just take a second to look up all the male athletes who are competing in female sports and winning. This isn't just happening in the olympics, but also high schools.... And when I say winning, I mean beating former 1st place competitors by a large margin.

in all sports competitors/athletes have their hormone levels tested. transgender men and women have their testosterone/oestrogen monitored to ensure that they have no hormonal advantage over cisgender athletes. the issue of cis athletes doping to gain an unfair advantage is a far bigger issue. your point is defunct, just admit you hate trans people and go cry about it.

No it's not. Schuyler is a boy's name and always has been it's simply that parents have decided to start using it for their daughters. The male Shannons, Ashleys, Lynns, Tracys and Vivians can pity the male Schuyler that is slowly also transitioning its gender from male to female. There's a girl in my kid's class name Ryan and another named Elliott (thank you very much The Office) and how many Morgans do you know? Morgan Freeman would probably like to think of his name as being a masculine name but for some reason some parent thought it was a feminine name. Girls are getting boy names because parents feel it gives them a leg up to have a male name in the corporate world. I guess they're right, you don't see any boys getting girl names and once the transition occurs, it never goes back because boys can't be like girls because girls are beneath them.

It can be scary, but I think it's better to chose what you are passionate about rather than what seems to be more socially rewarding, because studying hard without the motivation is almost impossible in the long run and your life become miserable... I have a trans friend (FTM). But the first time I ever met her, I honestly didn't even know she was trans. She was stunningly gorgeous in a feminine way without any surgeries or anything. She was wearing a long wig, me, being dumb, asked her how long it took her to grow her hair out and she laughed hard and told me that "Its a wig Hun. I'm trans." I was OPENLY shocked. I think sometimes, when a person knows for so long that their a specific gender, maybe it affects the way their body manifests itself. Even before treatment. Many Blessings to All LGBTQ+ 🏳️‍🌈 people out there. Everyone deserves respect as long as their being respected. ❤️

I wasn't going to comment but after seeing the negativity in here I wanted to throw some positivity out to him. I am so proud of him, he's doing what he loves and really excelling in it as well as being who he is even when others will try to tear him down for that. That's incredible!! I watched this video and I felt so moved by this story, it's really inspiring to see someone achieve their dreams and at the same time be accepted for who they are. However, after I went to the comments section and I was disgusted by the awful comments. I was mostly upset by the comments that said something like this..."I don't have a problem with trans people, on the other hand...." All of you need to stop, you are all so privileged you don't even realize it. First off transgender athletes aren't taking crazy steroids to help them win or cheat, they're taking hormones to be happy in their skin and feel normal for once in their life. Not only are you all so lucky to feel the way you were born but you actually have people to look up to, I'm a trans person just like Schuyler and this is really one of the first times I've ever felt inspired by someone who's like me. I honestly haven't started my transition yet because I basically can't turn to my parents, because of this the only way I can describe how I feel about my body is I constantly want to crawl out of my skin, many trans people feel the same way all the time. I'm so uncomfortable I have this feeling a lot weather I'm look at my body, hearing the sound of my voice, or someone calling me the wrong pronoun. It is so frustrating and many cis people don't understand how hard trans people have it and get so angry when they're finally happy. If anyone doesn't have anything nice to say about Schuyler or any transgender person for just being happy then don't say anything at all, you all probably wouldn't even say this in real life anyways since you're just hiding behind a computer screen ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Respect trans people, we matter and we're here get used to it.

The part where he said he was scared made me tear up. I cant imagine going on as a female while swimming. I’ve just told one of my friends and they were super supportive but I’m scared of loosing everything I had gain so far. I live in a country where people might not want me to be different. I’m really scared. I’m 15 and it’s been going on like this for 2years. I loved the water since I was very young, I went to swimming classes, after that I went to a swimming club and I met awesome people. I love swimming but I’m scared.

A sorry family? They would be even sorrier if their child committed suicide. Suicide is a big risk for transgenders, but with love and support from their families, they do just as well as the rest of us. Sure, gender dysphoria might be a psych issue, but Schuyler is handling that problem as best he can. If you don't have that problem, then just be glad that you don't, and be pleasant to those who must cope with it.

Not only is this a very moving story, it gives me plenty of hope. I'm transgender as well as a swimmer, and I want to be an Olympic athlete. Everything seemed complicated and I started swimming as a hobby, and I essentially gave up my dream to become a swimmer at competitive levels. He and I have such similar stories, and now he's given me the hope that I'll be a swimmer too.

As someone whos watched someone l love very much deal for many many years with not being able to "come out " to family, friends, employees & coworkers etc as her authentic self, lm extremely proud of this young man for being brave when it wasn't easy and strong not only for himself but members of the trans community at large !!! 🦋🦋🦋 The person l mentioned was born a male & will be 69 this month. She's known she identified as female since she was very small... she just didn't know there was a name for her feelings. She spent years being a husband, father, police officer and trucker because those were the roles expected of a genetic male. Even now as an engineer of 33 years, she cannot come out at work for fear of being fired. Though firing somehome for being trans is illegal, in a right to work state, her boss wouldn't need a reason. All of that being said, Mr. Bailar is helping to set the new acceptable standards of honoring not only family and school but most importantly himself. Stories like his, are paving the road to trans issue awareness, rights and freedoms with bricks of authenticity !!!! Just keep swimming ! ~ Dori

This is such a difficult topic. Of course transgender people should be allowed to compete at the Olympics if they qualify for it just like everyone else. It wouldn't be fair to exclude them. Finding a way to include them without making the games unfair to the other athletes isn't easy though. A seperate category could be a solution, but I doubt there are enough transgender athletes competing at the various Olympic events. If there were as many transgender athletes as male and female athletes, it would be easy. Four categories: Male, Female, Trans (Male to Female), Trans (Female to Male). Since this most likely isn't an option that would work out in reality though, I think the IOC is going in the right direction with their new rules - looking at scientific facts and data (e.g. testosterone level limits) - although I do find it a bit odd that they don't even have to transition. What I really hate about that discussion are the people who instantly call you 'transphobic' if you voice even the smallest, most justified, polite and constructive criticism.

I understand where you are coming from but I feel that if they were to have different groups for different people that others would criticize that the transgender people are being segregated against by separating them from cisgender people which makes logical sense. It is a difficult topic, I agree. However, creating a separate category for trans people isn't the answer. It would validate the fact that trans people aren't real men or women. If one identifies as trans then they're gender isn't trans its male,female or non binary. I think we should allow everyone to compete in their respective categories. Of course it would cause uproar but, its the right thing to do. The argument that some trans people would have "advantages" in the olympics kind of falls flat, for me at least. You have to go through a very long process to get your gender marker and name changed let alone the hormones. It takes 2-3 years until your body is at the required level to compete. It isn't as easy as waking up and just competing for the mens/female category. Lastly, if one would separate athletes based on performances or skill then it would not make sense to have an olympics in the first place. The whole point is to compete. This begs the question should we not allow Kenyans to compete in long distance events based on the fact that their genes give them an advantage?

No no no. Their levels of hormones are tested to make sure that similar athletes in his shape and age have the same levels or within the same levels. If his testosterone levels are 10 times higher than other athletes then he's disqualified. It's very tricky but the right doctors that know how the monitor these issues have a really tough job. When men transition to female at some point their levels of estrogen keep them as " weak" or as strong as a genetically born woman. Trust me I've done tons of research on this issue.

because his testosterone level is within the same range as the other athletes. he takes a specific dosage once or twice a month. trans athletes don't get to just inject themselves with testosterone whenever they want at any dosage they want it is strictly regulated

As soon as I came out it was a moment where I had finalized the decision to give up soccer, in light of the fact that when I start to physically transition I would no longer be able to compete. Like Schuyler and his swimming, soccer is all I know and love, the thought of not being able to compete in the sport is heart breaking. I'm currently studying at a Catholic school with many transphobic/homophobic students, and I wouldn't be able to receive the support I would need if I was to come out to everyone. So I haven't spoken on the situation to any of my family since, as I'm quite sure they're either uncomfortable or waiting for me to speak on it. My dysphoria is crippling to the point where I wouldn't go out and my depression has sky rocketed. It really doesn't help that I've given up on my only interest (soccer). Hopefully, one day I will be able to gain the courage just like Schuyler.

It's not a delusion. There are more gender types than male and female. Some men are born with female bodyparts. Some people are born with both male and female body parts. I believe I am the first trans male to do swim at my school and that makes me feel better that we are finally taking a step forward.
