listen to the chinese commentators, they hire ex-champions or coaches as guest commentator. In chinese, there's a saying 内行看门道,外行看热闹。 Meaning insiders appreciate skills, outsiders appreciate thrill. Obviously, many commentators are outsiders.

In this match Ma Lin is using the Yasaka Ma Lin Extra Offensive blade with the DHS Skyline NEO TG2 on the forehand and the Butterfly Bryce Speed FX on the backhand side, in case anyone is wanting to use a setup that won a gold medal. Mind you, they were using the 40mm celluloid ball back in 2008. It's spinnier and a bit faster than the modern ABS 40+ ball. Nevertheless, this setup is one of the best of all-time. Almost any level player can use it and it's not too expensive either.

@Wally-H
@Wally-H 5 жыл бұрын
@@joshuaellis7121 Yes there are still one or two top Asian players using the grip but the chances of two of them making a major final are about zero. I play penhold and that works for me as a club player but at the top levels, due to rubber and bat technology, shakehanders can generate too much power and spin and exploit the grip's weaknesses too easily. For me it's a shame because penholders always bring a different dimension to the game. Tactically, without the different grips and defensive players around, the top end of the game has become a bit stale.
