📺 Re-live ALL the incredible #Paris2024 action ➡️ go.olympics.co...
Relive the final of the Women's 3000m Steeplechase in the Olympic Stadium at the London 2012 Olympic Games (6 August).
Russia's Yuliya Zaripova later had the gold medal stripped on doping charges. Tunisia's Habiba Ghribi is now recognized as the Gold medallist from this event with Ethiopia's Sofia Assefa claiming silver and Milcah Chemos Cheywa from Kenya taking bronze.
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

I always think Kenyans dope to get a chance to make their team and earn a better standard of living. Their best athletes never seem to fail drugs tests, whereas the Russian women especially seem to all fail drugs tests especially the ones that rarely compete on the circuit.

@@marinacatalano1790 She was drugged up. Her results were expunged and the Gold medal awarded to Habiba Ghribi. While it's great for Ghribi to go down in the record books, she was robbed of the 'in the moment' glory that being the first Tunisian female to win an Olympic Athletics gold medal would have brought.

Those who are awarded medals (rightfully) after adjustment for doping must be honored on the podium at the very next Olympics. I think it is not only fair but morally correct to do so.

Such a shame for Ghribi and Tunisia that she and her country didn't get to experience all the joy that winning it on the track rather than in a court of arbitration. No Tunisian women had ever won a track Olympic title.
