Despite the couple of mistakes, the girl in the red coat was the soul of the Sochi games. Considering what this kid had been through in the 10 days between team and individual events, it's unbelievable that she put out a performance of this caliber. And she sold it right through to the very last look over her shoulder; never gave up and never gave in to the crushing disappointment after the fall. Yulia was such a fighter and so iconic.

what happened?
@flickasBF3 жыл бұрын
@@324shine After two phenomenal performances in the inaugural Olympic team event...on home ice...bringing home team gold, she became a global overnight sensation, with reporters hounding her during the entire 10 days between team and individual events despite her flying back to Moscow to train away from the Sochi limelight. Microphones were discovered planted in her locker room, she slept at the rink and later in a bedbug-ridden apt (she revealed she was covered in bites during the individual event), a man went public stating he was her long-lost father, etc. As a fairly introverted person, she was completely overwhelmed by the press and exhausted by the time she returned to Sochi for the individual event. She was crushed by this performance, as it dropped her to 5th, and she apologized to the country afterwards. Yulia took silver in the World Championships a month later, but her senior career slipped the next season from puberty, constant public pressure, and as later revealed, anorexia nervosa. She retired at 17 under a new coach, revealing she'd been in rehab to address her eating disorder. It was known she performed during these Olympics on essentially a powdered drink diet to keep her weight stable/down, just another exhausting factor in addition to everything else. Somehow, despite all this, she sold this exquisite long program, esp when performed clean (see Euro Championships). Even brought Schindler's List director Steven Spielberg to tears.

And now, she's already a mother. I miss Yulia so much.
I remember this. I was randomly watching and I said, “I think I just watched a masterpiece.” I don’t even know anything about skating!
@karupe99823 жыл бұрын
I miss her a lotttt, i thought we saw the birth of Yulia´s career and many years were to come, but we only saw the birth of Eteri´s dominance and brand. I would love Eteri to start aiming for longevity with her students, otherwise following her skaters its just a bunch of wins for a season (more or less, but they defenitely peak before 17) and then bye, truly sad.
@Angel-xe2tl3 жыл бұрын
agreed, but eteris technique she uses only works on really thin girls, which is mainly girls who havent gone through puberty yet. and when they finally get older and have finished puberty their jumps fail.
@karupe99823 жыл бұрын
@@Angel-xe2tl yes, and even being thin they dont eat much solid or drink water near a competition, they should add a coach to the team, one that deals with the transition to womanhood and keeps the right mindset when it comes to body and health, Eteri is great at what she does, but sometimes the means arent justified by the end

@karupe99823 жыл бұрын
@KoraimaLynn3 жыл бұрын
