mesh is too big... would stop a sword but not a mosquito I guess....

I'm just wondering if they could take a blow from a real weapon. Obviously we've no need for them now in actual combat as we use guns, but it's just a thought

a real weapon like a broadsword or a cavalry type sabre or even a spear? a big sword would probably crush the mesh but probably not penetrate the mesh (mind you I wouldn;t want to be wearing it to test that !!! lol...) but it would weaken the mesh in that area where it was struck and not last for many blows - same for a spear or a heavy cavalry sabre as only made to stop light fencing sport swords

Where is the punch test of the mask? Is it done in factory? Remember Vladimir Smirnov WCH 1982...

Done in weapon control at competitions. The design is 'homologatged' (fancy name for approved) by the FIE before production

that smirnov one before masks were tested at the comps and I think was the reason they do so now and they test any dents or obvious weak points in the mask....

Well...and the Ben basically shows us sabre mask at the end of the video, saying that it‘ll be used in the OG and suddenly it switches to London OG 2012 where we see EPEE fencer putting on EPEE mask....that is ridiculous, people who made this video probably have no a single understanding of how to make good video spot about fencing. It's completely not professional approach

I am guessing it wouldn;t matter as I doubt he knew what video they would show and before attaching the bib it was an un-insulated mask and the epee (i think) showed a un-insulated mask being used....
