So serene but dynamic at the same time - Krisztina Egerszegi's swimming is a thing of beauty! Her legacy and impact on the sport will never be forgotten!!

Egerszegi, what a legend. She was always so humble. When I was a little kid, we went to the swimming pool where she trained and she used the same public changing room as everybody else. It was in 1994 when there were lots of news about her quitting the sport or not. Some photographers even followed her in the arena and she since she really disliked the media harassing her, she asked us if she could hide behind us, little girls. I was too young to realise what a legend she was but I clearly remember her winning her 5th gold medal in Atlanta a few years later. She is so respected and loved in Hungary.:)

Thanks for sharing. She's my favorite backstroker. She seems to be an introvert, unlike the American swimmers grinning with gigantic mouth when winning a gold medal.

Her leadoff backstroke time in the medley relay, 1:01.15, was faster than the winning time in the 100 m backstroke final at this event.

Unfortunately she decided not to taking part. She still did not have enough self confident... Unfortunately it is typical in Hungary. But WE love her and appreciate our 'little mouse'.

She had no opponent, and she was only 22 when she retired, she could have participated in 2 more Olympics if she wanted to...she still would be most decorated female swimmer of all time. She is the best backstroke swimmer of all time.
The most forgotten and underrated GOAT level swimmer ever. Doesn’t get the recognition she deserves.

She is not at all forgotten, not in Hungary anyway, but she doesn't want to live in the limelight anymore. She has 3 children, and they didn't know either for a while who she really was.

what are you talking about? She is an unbroken legend here in Europe for swimmers of her generation.

What a talent! She could have easily continued on to Sydney 2000 (if she wanted to) for more gold! Why didn’t she enter the 100m Bk in Atlanta? Her time in the heats of the Medley relay was faster than the winner of the individual 100m BK.
