With the new DeepPrime noise cancelling in DxO Photolab 4, noise is no longer an issue. I tried with a picture taken at ISO 10000 taken with Panasonic G9 and DeepPrime set to 80 and it got superclean and did not appear to loose details as I did with Topaz (and didn't have artifacts as I sometimes get with Topaz). It is simply amazing. However, I have not done a side by side with a picture taken at ISO 200, but I will expect that to be sharper and better in fine details, but depending on print/view size it may not matter. A beautiful piece of workmanship to be sure but not something I could justify in the price range. It does have me looking at the already existing 100-400mm F5-6.3 though. I have some legacy Olympus 4/3 glass in the 70-300mm range and a 2X teleconverter (along with a 4/3 to m4/3 adapter, of course) that has been getting me by but I really can't use it without a tripod. Maybe it's time to look into selling some old favourites.

I'm looking for lens with which can take the photo of the moon in entire m43 frame. Can the presented lens do it? Maybe somebody already know, what is the focal length on m43 to take the entire moon to size of sensor? Can the lens be used for astrophotography?

It can be used for astro. Not sure what focal length is needed to fill frame with moon. 400mm should be enough.

The price will no doubt make me shudder, but the cost of similar focal length lens in the FF world is not for the faint hearted either. Wildlife photographers will need to cover the white paint... For me, the 100-400 would do and meanwhile, my 50-200/2.8-3.5 with 1.4x tele converter is good enough for the birds in the garden. I fear that the high price of the new lens will prevent wildlife and sport photographers from considering the Olympus system. It might be competitive compared to similar lenses from other brands, but those, who really are spending that money for their job, probably won't change to Olympus.
@p.io74 жыл бұрын
Well, professional photographers rarely change the system. But the new photographers who are to become professionals one day will definitely keep an eye on this lens. 2000mm reach! I'd like to see how that looks on FF camera, and the price tag of that.

@@MrReadboy on image output, is that your opinion or a fact? Have u ever seen an image taken with a nikon 200-500 mm? i don't think this lens produces much better image quality than nikom 200-500 mm. But even if it does, I don't think there would be much difference. The price of this lens is double of the d500+200-55 mm combo and i don't think there is a better olympus camera than the d500 being sensor size one of the many advantages, in this case, for low light handling capabilities due to having bigger pixel photodiodes for 20MP sensors.The d500 dynamic range is awesome.

As lens, and I base my opinion from reading the technical sheet, it's a superlative object. Do I need it? NO. At £ 6500 UK sterling, I can't even dream of buying it. I'd rather spend money on flight tickets (covid-19 permitting). However, I have seen it on the rental websites, and I will definitely have a go to get in the queue as soon as it will be available; I will treat myself as I did when I booked a day at the racetrack driving hypercars (that I am not able to buy). I also noticed that the 40-150 ƒ2.8 is a helluva lens, and I rarely need extra reach, so I will keep that for the time being.

Astonishing lens. I see it more from the perspective of a technical feasibility study matching to the slogan: break free from heavy gear 👍. For me as an amateur it's far too expensive to even trigger g.a.s (gear acquisition syndrom) - knowing it's cheap compared to other systems super tele lenses. 🤷♂️ Will rather use the winter promotion for a different lens instead. 🤔🤩 Nevertheless - thanks for sharing Peter. Stuff me! I said "not for me", but I think I WILL save for it. I guess it it will be over ten thousand of our Aussie 🇦🇺dollars! But you know ... what do the opposition have that's portable? Easy answer: NOTHING. So, do I need a 1X, or would a MKiii work just as well? This is an important question for me, as I "only" have a MKii right now, and what a second body as I sold my original EM1 recently.
@ForsgardPeter4 жыл бұрын
I know. I got so tempted after talking with Jari Peltomäki... If you use it for bird photography I would say go with the E-M1X. If it is going to be used for something else then the E-M1 MKIII with the battery grip will do fine.

Hi Peter, if I'm not wrong this huge super-tele-zoom provides the unbelievable 8-stops stabilization gain ONLY when mounted on the E-MX1, isnt'it? I read terrible reviews about this camera (see: fstoppers.com/originals/are-they-nuts-olympus-e-m1x-betrays-promise-micro-four-thirds-334609): being too big it seemed betraying the "small&minimal" philosophy of the MFT system and of the very same Olympus brand (in short, it was accused to challenge the full-frames systems without any chance of success). But now, this exceptional couple of super-tele-zoom and camera, plus the bird recognization feature that ease the focusing process seems to be a winning ace, even if limited to the naturalistic photography. Might it be the case that the opinions about this super-camera will be re-evaluated, in front of such performances?

I'm sorry I can't get too excited about a $7500 specialty lens. Give me a new updated sensor; that would get my blood flowing. But I hope someone can enjoy it.
@rockatanescu4 жыл бұрын
I really don't get the $7500 price. Canon has an EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 lens for $2399 and the new RF 100-500 f/5.6-7.1 for $2699, Sony sells a 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 for $2499. Nikon has a 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6for $2299 or the 200-500mm f/5.6E for $1399, even Pentax has a 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6 that's $1999. All of them are very sharp lenses according to basically every reviewer out there, all of them are 100-ish to 400-ish, all of them have basically the same size and weight, all of them have several stops of image stabilization and are generally within a stop away from f/4.5 (with the notable exception of the RF 100-500, but that's just a 1 and 1/3rds of a stop). So the cost of manufacturing a lens like the 150-450mm f/4.5 is somewhere around $2000 or even less. For the amount of money Olympus is asking for this lens, I can buy the Canon EOS R5 with the RF 100-500 f/5.6-7.1 plus a grip, a 128 GB CF Express card and a couple of spare batteries and then crop 20MP out of the 45MP in post-production or use the 1.6 crop mode from the start and get basically the same results. I mean, sure, it's normal to pay a premium for the small and bright MFT "pro" lenses with weather sealing and great image stabilization but this is totally unrealistic. Only two weeks ago I rented a Canon EOS R and a 300mm f/2.8 and I thought it was too short for what I needed and I was really hoping the Olympus 150-450 f/4.5 would be priced rather reasonably. The only way this lens would have made sense at that price would be if Olympus or Panasonic would have a new sensor in the works for the Olympics with 30+ MP. It really would have been something to see some photographers on the side with an EM1X mark II with 45MP sensor and better low-light performance than what's currently available and this 150-450mm lens. Unfortunately, chances of this happening are basically none.
