I’ve gotten my hands on the EPL3 and I absolutely love it! I’ve never seen the pictures look like paintings they’re very pleasing to the eye. Out of all my 200 cameras I’ve put this as my number 1 as of today.

Thanks for the review, it is probably the best looking , well made 12MP mirrorless camera money can buy and the E-P3 simply packs tons of Fun to use.

Thank you! Your Olympus EP-3 review was one reason why I recently bought this camera (in SIM-City during a trip to Hong Kong). I paid approx. 160 Euro for it (in white) in combination with the Olympus 14-42mm zoom lens (in silver). This (nearly mint) camera is a nice add-on to my camera collection. The build quality is great. What I especially like are the vintage style looking images straight out of the camera. I am finding rarely the time to do the PP drill - therefore I am quite happy with the EP-3.

I have an e-p1, e-p3 and OMD em1, all bought used for very little money in camera terms. I switched a couple of years ago to Olympus micro four thirds from a 15 year old Pentax DSLR kit. These Olympus are all fantastic cameras. My favorite camera to carry all the time is the e-P3. It is extremely compact. I typically have a compact Lumix 12-32mm zoom on it, or the 17mm f2.8 Olympus prime lens. I do have the optional EVF, which is essential in bright light, but use the LCD more that the EVF. The e-p3 is absolutely classic in appearance and feel, a solid, high-performing camera, with legendary Olympus image quality. It isn't as fast focusing, and it's only a 12 megapixel sensor, but for 90% of what I do it works great. The em1 is also a great camera with a flip up LCD and integral EVF (which the ep-1 and ep-3 don't have). The e-p1 is a great backup body. I'll be sticking with Olympus micro four thirds for many more years!

I have an E-P2 and since I don't do video, I'm pretty satisfied with it. I purchased it for a very low price and I soon discovered why: the stabiliser is faulty. But even without a functioning image stabiliser I still get pretty good results. It was nice to see a glimpse of your camera collection in the sample video! Cheers!
@steve_heise2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! By the way, I got that error message on one of my other Olympus cameras. I started doing some research and apparently that’s pretty common for the stabilizer to eventually stop working. The other weird one that’s also pretty common is the mode dial stops working. (My EM10 is stuck in Manual Mode.) it’s funny but I love these older Olympus cameras so much I still keep using them no matter what. Lol

Most of the 3 axis IS Pens I see have faulty IS. I bought mine in mint cosmetic condition with only 1500 or so shutter count, but hey ho, the IS was showing error. Luckily I had bought a Panasonic 14-45mm kit lens for it which has OIS which makes up in for it. It was my impression that the bodies 3 Axis IBS was available in video shooting rather than just digital, but mine being faulty I can't test that. I also think that it produces 1080i at 59.94 but that the chip only delivers 30fps. I have always de-interlaced the footage to 60fps files before inter cutting with Nikon D5300 1080p 60 footage. I get a lot of clicking audio noise from both the Panasonic and Zuiko 14-42mm non pancake lens. But, thought that it was down to faulty IBS, but if it is digital only it can not be that.

Thanks for another great review! I love the images from my E-PM2. I’ve had a few Pen’s E-P1, E-PM1, E-PL8. Liked them all and with careful shopping you can get them for so little. I’d really love to see some side by side shots from a Pen compared to your older E-300 to see if there is a big difference between what you get from one of these compared to the older CCD sensors. I know side by side comparisons aren’t your normal style of review but I think people may find it interesting to see how different or similar the images are from 2 different generations of Olympus.

Great video! I have a few cameras and some are better and some are worse on paper than the E-P3, but I just connect with the E-P3. I love the look of it and the way it feels in my hands, so when I'm heading out and looking to grab a camera to take with me, that's the one I reach for the most.
@gabl8a89Ай бұрын
That is exactly the point of getting a E-P3 even in 2024/ 2025. It isnt the best out camera out there and a flagship smartphone probably surpassed its glory.....but it emits that premium feeling of a Mont Blanc Fountain Pen a pleasant journey of taking photos and i feel that is all that matters. I used mine with a Toshiba Flash, and shoot only JPGs, so far its has great colour science and colour consistency across various platform making its JPG kund of social media ready to instant share❤

The E-P3 silver version is the one to go for. Unlike the E-P1 and E-P2, it is metal all throughout. This changed on the E-P5. Arguably, the E-P3 is the sexiestof the series.

Thnx a million Steve. Gotta love Olympus. BTW, have you ever shot a Nikon D300s. Picked up a used example recently. Bit to early to judge the IQ, but the feel and handling (especially with largish lenses) is magnificent. The menu options great. I don't think you'd be disappointed with it if you can find one in decent condition at good value. Would love to see you put it through your review. Thanks again

The E-PL1 is also a great little pick up because it has ISO 100. I have the E-PL2 and the lowest it goes to is ISO 200 but the ISO goes higher. The E-PL1 does have a cleaner image at ISO 100 then the E-PL2 does at ISO 200.

The E-P3's IBIS is only 2-axis, so no roll correction.
@steve_heise2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you’re only options are vertical-only, horizontal-only or auto. And all three, unfortunately only work in photo mode and not video.
@StephenStrangways2 жыл бұрын
@@steve_heise those are the only options you can select on all Olympus cameras, but the ones with 3-axis IBIS (E-M10, E-PL7 and higher) or 5-axis IBIS (E-M5 and higher, E-P5 and Pen-F) also automatically correct for roll. This is extremely helpful because lens OIS can't do that, and it's common for people to induce rotation in lightweight cameras when they press the shutter button with excess force.

My first MFT was a second-hand E-P1 and I was blown away by the colours. But I quickly traded it in for a great deal on an E-P3, mainly for the video. I was a little bit disappointed by the colours - not quite the same richness as the E-P1. Still very luscious, though.

How do you do a review of the camera without mentioning the availability of the game changing VF2 electronic viewfinder, an absolute dealbreaker for shooters like myself that can’t understand how anybody could enjoy capturing photos with that iPhone at-a-distance experience. Yes, it diminishes the portability, but makes up for that minor “inconvenience” in every other way, especially so as the VF2 in particular is widely heralded for it’s high quality image. Anyway, your viewers who wouldn’t consider a camera without a viewfinder might want to know that’s an option.... EyE did, which is why I would never consider the E-P1, even as a freebie...., just sayin’ 😊
