It's 2024 and I just bought a lovely used copy of this gem. I tell people that our camera gear from the last 5-10 years is AMAZING. I have an OM-1 but these older Pen cameras are a ton of fun.

I've not shot them side by side, but I'd not expect any real difference in end result. The decision between the two should be based on what you need from the hardware... handeling, Built in EVF Vs removable, weather sealing, optional battery grips, built in intervalometer, improved 5 Axis stabilisation... theres a fist-full of small differences that no two people will prioritise the same way... there is no clear "better" camera in that decision. (and both are very good cameras).

Love your reviews! Always fun to watch! Did Olympus eliminate the low pass filter for the new E-P5?

Not for the review period, but I did get hands-on with one at the initial briefing on this camera. Seems very nice. Larger than my VF-2, but noticeably bigger display also. Good optics, very bright and clear.
@BluntyTV11 жыл бұрын
Yes it does... But only when the Stabilisation is active (shutter depressed, or in active video mode) and it's so quiet I didn't even notice it until I was deep in an underground tunnel, under countless tons of rock, on an island, alone. So yeah... not really an issue.

Want a built in EVF? Get the OMD EM-5. That's why that line exists. Meanwhile there are removable EVF's that work a damn treat on the PEN's and don't ad bulk to the camera when you don't want/need it.
@BluntyTV11 жыл бұрын
Indeed... like I mentioned, given that it's the same sensor and processor as teh OMD, I've got a pretty solid line on what data to expect lurking in those (currently inaccessible to me) RAW files already... and yes, it's a Smile inducing thought :)

No. ALL of my reviews are 100% independent. My words. My opinion. I say what I mean and I mean what I say, and I NEVER allow a company to dictate what I can or cannot say about a product in a review. If it's good I say so, if it's shit I say so.

Yes. Worked perfectly.

great review! I'm a stills shooter mainly and I'm getting a free GX7 from work, but I might trade it in to see if I can purchase this camera. ATM in the UK it's slightly pricier, but it does come with a free EVF. Is that sensible or should I just stick with GX7? I've had olympus pen cameras before and really enjoyed them.

Mind-blowing quality!

Presumably the RAW format is the same as the EM5? Could you set the camera model to be the same as the EM5 in the EXIF (with ExifTool) and fool the RAW converter so you can have a play with the RAW files?

Thanks for the great review. I'm really looking forward to this little guy.

Would this be a good starting camera for someone who doesn't know the ins and outs of photography? I'm interested in getting into it and the E-P5 seems to spit out some beautiful pictures.

blunty what are your favorite piks out of the ones that are in this video? mine are the 2 at 1:07

I was already considering jumping ship from Nex to the m43, the quality here is making this more likely. Do you find the OMDEM5 better this pen given that the sensor is the same?
@PhinioxGlade11 жыл бұрын
From the shots I particularly like the brown statue of the kid in the park. The background blur is very pleasing and has a lot of subject separation. Is this accredit to the camera or the operator, my guess both.

Nice job, did you get the vf-4 also?

Sounds good, ill look into it. Thanks for the suggestion.

My epl-3 makes an awful noise when in video mode so I'm happy as long as it doesn't interfere, omd or ep5 my mind cant decide! Will there be a new omd anytime soon ?
@paultaylor551311 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure why people are so obsessed with view finders. Sure they are useful in bright sunshine but other than that I like using the rear screen more as I can just touch where I want to focus and take a shot and I'm also don't have the camera pressed to my face which is off putting for subjects I think - especially children.

How about the EPM2? Same sensor,same image quality, fewer features and controls, BUT much cheaper. A nice bit of kit to learn on.About $€500 with a kit lens. The EP5 is nice, really, but expensive, $€1000 body only.

I think this is the successor to the omd. Since the epl5 is more like a tiny omd no view finder.

Plz do this again when you can use lightroom with its RAW files, thanks

Your E-P5 and OMD EM-5 reviews are very informative. I am looking to get into Micro Four-Thirds. Do you plan to review the Panasonic GH3 ? Several reviews have "raved" about the GH3. It seems to be a great camera. But I would like to see and hear your views of the GH3 ???
