I have the E330 version of this camera. I has a more DSLR style view finder without the split image spot, it has live view and I have shot it up to ISO 800 with good results. It doesn't have the CCD sensor, it has a LiveMOS sensor . I have the E500 also that has the CCD sensor and for me at least I don't see that big a difference between the CCD or the LiveMOS sensors. I think that Olympus' color rendering algorithms has more do with the look of the images rather than the sensor.

That stated the case fairly and accurately. The E-300 was the first digital i bought - in 2006 - and i bought it because i'd had experience with Oly in the film era and i couldn't afford to buy their flagship E-1. As i write this, that E-300 is sitting next to me (so is an E-1), and it still takes photos although not everything is as reliable as it once was. It's a fair weather and good light camera. It's also a camera that it helps to think of as being more like a film than a digital camera - the screen is only really useful for the menu and half an idea of the exposure in a test shot. I still quite enjoy the experience - although focusing with manual vintage glass is a bit of hit and miss, that's how i tend to use both it and the E-1. Manual glass contributes further to the filmic vibe. I've not tried it with the best 4/3 glass, although i do have several of the HQ and all of the SHQ lenses which i use on my E-5 and, with an adapter, my E-M1X. But i don't really think there's much point in expecting to get really high quality images from five and eight MP DSLRs. They're cameras that are fun, or novel, or time-trippy, or cheap enough to learn the basics on without breaking the bank. It's always fun to see know that i'm not alone in still caring for and enjoying these things, and every now and then finding that, despite all the years, they can still be relevant and produce pleasing and useful images. Thanks for the video - well done and i enjoyed it very much. Cheers.

You can get high quality from 8 mp if done right

Just get an E-3. It's got superb ergonomics, build quality and image stabilisation. Paired with any of Olympus's high grade lenses will give you wonderful results.

Yeah sure but this one is special. They used a kodak sensor in this

@@nicob7827 Yes of course, which also applies to the E-1 and I've got one of those. To be honest, I've always considered that where colour is concerned, the processor chip inside the camera is at least as important as the sensor and people used to similarly enthuse about the Canon EOS 5D for the same reasons, yet its output is probably my least favourite amongst Canon cameras. I suppose as always beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

5:01 There are other cameras with this mirror layout. Panasonic made the Lumix DMC-L1, also a Four Thirds camera. Not many people remember, but Leica had their own version of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 which they sold as the Leica Digilux 3. And prior to DLSRs, the analog Olympus Pen F from the 1960s and its variations had a mirror that swinging sideways with the viewfinder arranged like a rangefinder camera.

I think your camera has actually been modified with changing out the original focus screen for one that can be useful mostly for manual focusing lenses, i did the same with mine. the original screen would show rectangles where the focusing points are if im not mistaken or remember correctly.

Definitely an aftermarket focusing screen.

I still have an E-300, as well as an E-500. I briefly owned an E-330, and also an E-510 but didn’t much like either of them. The E-300? It’s kinda like Kodachrome. Not at all forgiving, but has a unique look. And sometimes when the stars align, you get magic. The E-500 is easier to use, but I never got the same look from it as the E-300.
