For the price, the Noctricon should have been a weather sealed lens. What were Panasonic thinking?

How is it going with the M43 kit? I recently sold mine and went for a Nikon Z6 but to be honest I liked the G9 better.
@GuamPhotography6 жыл бұрын
Its going good, I'm having fun with it, most dont even know im shooting M43 when they see the pics. I just feel that with the newer M43 cameras without the AA filter, the images are just so sharp, and M43 can only get better :) Congrats on the Z6 though!

Great review. I just picked up another G9 after selling my old one last year. I think the IOS in Nocticron gives it a slight edge over the Olympus. With that being said, I agree with another commenter...for the price, this lens should have been weather sealed.

I have been slowly building an olympus pro lens collection for my panasonic, but will be getting the nocticron for dual ois. Nice review and great pics.

Thank you, great and vey informative review. Really different to tell which is "better" as both have clearly different character. I do not want to do any Olympus bashing, but to me the problem with the lens is that it appears to be a bit "feathered" in the in-focus area too. This is not only a bit less sharpness but also the Olympus pictures look a a little "flat". I am actually surprised that the Nocticron manages to avoid this and produces some 3D pop (Leica / Zeiss look as some used to call it decades ago). Surprised as it has the same amount of glass elements, fourteen, as the Olympus. Rule of thumb is, that lenses with more than 9 elements are often producing "flat" pictures, mainly due to the lack of micro contrast.
@GuamPhotography6 жыл бұрын
Yes you're right, usually more lens elements to do the CA and other corrections tend to look 'flat', thats why some of the older Nikkor legacy glass still has a nice 3D pop, but the Nocticron was able to still produce Leica like images, where its so sharp :)

Appreciate your review. Liked very much the information and the reviews/comments by both model and photographer on the images. Hard to say the comparison's are not influenced by the individual camera and how it processes images/settings and presets/etc. To remove that possibility, all images should be shot from the same camera.

yes, thats true, I just wanted to kinda match the brands :)

IT would be nice to hear some local native music ( from Guam ) in your background. For me the Nocticron has more vivid color and a little better contrast. Thanks for share.

Nice video. The Lumix G9 looks VERY sharp. Olympus images are beautiful as well but prefer more sharp images.

Smooth background means nothing if the overall image is inferior to the one Leica offers. The overall look at first sight means everything. But is your choice, your money.

Not necessarily true. Many subjects don't want to see their imperfections with biting sharpness.

Nice useful video. In practice I don’t think the dual IS on the Panasonic is a differentiator with this lens and shooting at these shutter speeds. My experience is that the oly and G9 combo miss eye focus at 1.2 twice as often as the G9 and pani. The oly background is more diffused but both are equally smooth in my opinion. The oly with its extra mm and softer image is probably the better portrait lens. I chose the pani for in focus keepers at 1.2 and better sharpness for uses other than portraits.

Nice comparison... I recently picked the Canon 50mm 1.2l to use for portraits on the em1ii... it is pretty soft wide open compared to both of these lenses... but creates a nice atmosphere for portraits on m43...

Interesting comparison, but to compare lenses you need to use only one camera. RAW files from Olympus and Panasonic or any other maker are not going to be exactly the same.
@sirlancelot31096 жыл бұрын
Nah this comparison is different but just as valid as doing it with one camera. Tests with one camera people just say that if you use the lenses natively you will get a different result.
@GuamPhotography6 жыл бұрын
If I just use one camera, for example the Olympus E-M1 Mark II, for both lenses, people will complain and say its not fair because the Nocticron is not being used on a Lumix camera, and that the Lumix camera like you said will have a different raw file. I just wanted to use the lenses respective brands, because some cameras do put the lens profiles in the raw itself (data). So some correction may occur, but I understand what you're saying.

Leica lens is just amazing at the second location. I think it deserves all the effort in getting it! I would have liked it to see how images look on Olympus camera with this lens. It has also much more depth so a "filmic" look (10:22).
@GuamPhotography6 жыл бұрын
I wanted to test the lenses on its manufacturers body, just incase the camera body itself is adjust the raw files to meet the lens profile.
