Great video. We of the older generation had only film cameras to use. It's amusing (to us) that youngsters (anyone under 30!) have no clue what they are or how to use them. Same goes for audio cassettes, VHS and so on. I learned the basics of film photography with a very simple Zorki 4. I took an A-level night school course and learned even more. The electronic wizardry of modern image capture is great of course, but there's no longer any romance to it. Kind of like printing a text document on copier paper as opposed to writing a letter with a fountain pen..... or am I just a grumpy old man who's reluctant to join the modern world.? Lol.. ;)

I've still got my first 35mm SLR, a Pentax Super A. It works perfectly and I recently put a roll of Kodak Tri X through it and developed the film. The results were excellent when scanned and printed digitally. It's all a far cry from the modern digital process and I don't think I will be going back!

A 675 zinc air battery and brass adapter does the job. I use them in my OM1 and Nikkormat FT-N cameras, with excellent results.

i dumped all my Leica gear - M2, M4, M5, M7 with Summicrons 35 & 50 - to go Olympus. No regrets whatever. My OM bodies & Zuiko glass give me far more keepers & a bigger smile on my face than Leica ever did! The OM analogue series are all masterpieces, bettered in terms of operation and lens quality by no-one.

A truly outstanding camera. I own several of the old OM series 35mm cameras, including an OM-1n. I hope you can get that mirror fixed and put it to some more use. Any word on the film that was in the camera? I'm curious to see if you were able to retrieve any images.

Unfortunately it’s not cost effective to get it fixed, I can buy a pristine replacement from eBay for less than the repair cost. I’m not worried though. As long as you know the right part of the image to focus on then you can get away with it nicely.

My OM-1 gets a lot of use. It sits next to its modern twin, my silver E-M5 mk iii. They’re basically the same size.

Micro 43 is full frame. Full frame refers to the lens to sensor size. Apsc is crop because it is smaller sensor with 35mm lens. The M43 lens is made for the m43 system and therefore is a true full frame camera. Other wise 35mm Canon and Nikon are crop sensor from larger format cameras. Nice video. ps I shoot a OM-4 Ti

Nice camera Brian. Switched from Olympus 35mm to Canon APS-C. I miss the compact size of my Olympuses and may switch back, but as yet I've not got enough value out of my Canon cameras and lenses. I still have my OM4, OM2SP, OM30 and OM10 and the Zuiko lenses. Seeing the old next to the new Olympus M43 has got me thinking. I think owning an Olympus influenced me with the M50 and Canon's smallest DSLR the 250D/SL3. Not sure I want to fork out a lot of money for the new Canon RF range. I get the feeling that I'd be fleeced if I went down that avenue. I fell for that marketing trick of the client expects you to have what the client sees as pro gear once before with apple macbook pros.

OM4…nice. I really do like the M50, it’s supposed to be excellent for video blogging too. Even better I believe you can get an adaptor to fit the apps-c and l series lenses, although that sort of defeats the object of the small camera. I’d personally suggest thinking carefully before changing if you have already invested heavily unless you can get some really good trade in value. It sometimes looks to some people on the channel that I’m anti every system apart from MFT but I’m actually the opposite. The cameras from Canon especially created a very good and profitable business for me and I do think they are wonderful to this day, just I’ve moved to a different place. Whatever you decide just try to avoid the marketing hype and work out what is needed from your end results with your style of shooting. You may well find that a change doesn’t produce more sales but does create more expense. Most of my commercial shooting was studio based portraits where I have excellent, controllable light and never got printed much larger than 20”x16” or was on social media. But I could be shooting for 8-10 hours straight of 500-1000 subjects at a time. Low light and super dynamic range were not as important as weight and size for me. But these criteria may very well be of no interest to you, your style and your intended output. Best wishes and thanks for the comment.

I just got an OM-1 to go when the all the vintage Olympus lenses I’ve been using on my Nikon mirrorless system. Bought from the son of the deceased father. Got it home and the was still a roll of film inside. Like you there was just one picture left to take. Contacted the seller and still waiting on them to pick it up. So what happened to the roll inside your camera? I looked for a follow up video but didn’t see it.

I never got a response from YT or Facebook. I traced the area by a working men’s club in one of the shots and put notices on the local FB pages but nothing. The photos were not good and it looked as though the film was years out of date. I wonder if it was maybe given to a youngster as something to play with rather than being forgotten by the photographer. I know I got given all sorts of “old”, not used anymore, things by my parents and grandparents parents. They kept me fascinated for weeks.

Wouldn't it be nice if some of the other camera company pulled a Leica? I'd love to see Olympus or Pentax release a minimalist digital camera with an OM/M42/K-mount.
