Hey Joe, Sure do miss your smiling face. Funny thing, it's after 1 January and my Olympus cameras and lenses still take fabulous photos. I even bought new lenses and I'm thinking about buying a new Olympus camera. The world has not ended, my cameras and lenses have not exploded and I'm having fun making photographs. Ps. my photos have improved thanks to some great advice from a certain photographer from Dallas, Texas.

Joseph, it's great to see you're adding your creative insight to the de facto Gold Standard series of Olympus How To videos produced by Rob Trek. While Rob Trek is the go-to guy in providing the "101 Essentials" tutorials for mastering Olympus' many and complex menu settings, along with clear explanations and essential understanding, I'm sure Olympus owners will appreciate how you've built upon Rob Trek's complete series by adding your own invaluable insights. Nice one, Rick (UK-based professional photographer and technical educator)

Excellent video as usual. I don’t know if anyone has mentioned it, but there’s a small bass boom every time you move your hands onto the desk. When listening through headphones it’s really distracting (almost unwatchable for me but I suffer from Misophonia). Perhaps some padding between the mic mount and desk would help, or perhaps you could filter out the low frequencies.

Thanks Joseph. I am preparing to rent an EM1 III and a lens or two to test out and consider changing systems and buying an Olympus system. Nothing wrong with my Nikon system (D750 FF plus many lenses), just getting heavy for me and doesn't have the speed and features of Olympus. Full frame sensor was good for me, tho.

@JosephEllisPhotographer4 жыл бұрын
Doug Stansfield To activate ProCap you still need to maintain pressure on the trigger even though it won’t be focusing the camera. You’ll always see a green circle indicator in the viewfinder/LCD when ProCap is active.

Hi again- is there a way to lock down all buttons so that while shooting none are accidentally pressed? While on a shoot I accidentally pressed the HDR button on the top left and the camera stopped "regular" shooting. I was stunned for a while and it took me two minutes to figure it out (seemed like forever while on a shoot). Any ideas for this? TY!

Joe - Fantastic video! Thanks for the great insight as usual. I do have a question though. When the the Half Way AF selection is "operative" I am able to see the actual focus point of the picture that was taken cycling through the info choices. When I select "Inoperative" the recorded focus point disappears when I cycle through the info choices. Is there any way to see the recorded focus point while having "Inoperative" selected under Half Way AF?

Joseph; you have made two recent informative videos discussing the new and improved Continuous Auto Focus (CAF) and Face Detect (FD) of the new Olympus EM1 MKIII. I believe the improvements you were discussing are those improvements specific to the EM1 MKIII and not improvements made to all Olympus cameras as a result of recent firmware upgrades. As a result the CAF and FD improvements you discussed are not applicable (as yet) to the EM1 MKII, EM1X or even the EM5 MKIII. Unless I have missed something here I think there is need for a video comparing CAF and FD of the EM5 MKIII, EM1 MKII, EM1X against the EM1 MKIII.

Great video! Just picked this camera up the other week. I'm using the Olympus smartphone app and it downgrades my video quality from 4K to FHD when I go to record. Is there any way to prevent this? I'm just looking to use my phone as a 'monitor' and to be able to hit Record and control some of the settings. I'm not so much concerned with being able to transfer or play video back on my phone which is why I think it does this? Thanks again.
@JosephEllisPhotographer4 жыл бұрын
I think it's a bandwidth limitation if you want to get that live feed but if you're just needing to check at the beginning of a recording you could switch the functionality of the app after you get set up to use the "Remote Trigger" option under [gear icon - remote control - remote shutter] and that won't send any video to your phone so you should be good for 4K recording.

Video - Phase/Face? detect. Hard to tell which you meant. And, whichever it was, where is it (video time mark)? You didn't say.
@JosephEllisPhotographer4 жыл бұрын
Not sure I understand your question. The EM1.3 has both. Phase detect is a key technology which keeps the camera from hunting for focus and it's been there since the EM1.2. Accurate and usable face detect is unique to the EM1.3., it's the first OMD which I can rely on to accurately track faces for portraiture. I turn it on/off from the super control panel.

Back Button focusing is for certain applications. For me.. I turn it on when I’m shooting birds at my back yard bird feeder. My camera is on the couch next to me. When I see a cool bird I just press the shutter button. The focus doesn’t have to hunt in and out. It’s already perfectly set focused for that exact spot.
