Hi, Mikey, thank you! Yes, once I knew the space that I had available for the railroad I made a list of the key elements that I wanted it to have. I then went to work on figuring out what I thought would be an interesting track plan. I knew that the railroad would be set in the Midwest with some Ozark Mountain flavor during the 1955-75 era. I’m pretty pleased with how it is all turning out. Thank you again. Bill

Looks great! Did not realize the layout was as big as it was. The elevation changes break it in to smaller chucks. It does a good job of making the train disappear.
@ozarkmidlandsouthernrailway Жыл бұрын
Hi, John, thank you! The layout was designed and built in four phases. I tried to design it such that one does not really see the entire railroad at one time. The elevated trackage contributes to that. I also tried to break up the railroad in sections so that although it is relatively small compared to some O gauge railroads the operator feels as if the train is actually moving along the countryside from one place to another. Thank you, again! Bill

Ron, Mr. Will B. Goodman doesn't give me much time to just relax. You know he is a hard driving railroad man, through and through. He has some big plans should I ever complete the railroad as currently seen. I do not believe I have ever mentioned a Phase V, have I. Oh, there is one, lol! Ron, the railroad is in the basement which has a walk around entrance in addition to the stairs. The track is simply done with a clean cloth and some elbow grease. Sometimes, for stubborn dirt I will put a little 95% alcohol on the cloth, but that is seldom needed. Bill

Hey, Sam, good morning and thanks! Yes, in the space I have available I have tried to create a number of different scenes to give one the feeling that the trains are travelling to different parts and to provide interest. Before designing the midwestern railroad set in the Ozarks, besides having a way to turn the trains around, I wanted to have at least two towns, a rural area (the farm scene), some industries to allow for the switching, some yard trackage, at least one tunnel, and some bridges. It took some work, but I believe I have got everything I wanted. I am lucky and a pretty happy camper. Now all I have to do is continue to try to bring my vision to fruition via the application of scenery. I do appreciate your comment. Thank you! Bill PS I do like the Wabash. Bill...your layout is looking fantastic. Neatly done and pleasant to view...I like your ideas. How long are your shelving strips...I'm trying to get an idea on how many pieces you can place on each one. I've also thought about homasote...is it heavy to work with ? Thank You 👍
@ozarkmidlandsouthernrailway Жыл бұрын
Hi, James, thank you! James the rails of shelving are 6’ long and made of aluminum. I really like them. They are pretty easy to install particularly if you have a helper. With regards to the homasote, it is heavy. It is easy to cut with a power saber saw but is messy when doing so. Insulation foam sheets are an alternative if you are not going to have to get on top of it. The foam crushes easily, but it does allow one to carve into it to create depressions, something homasote really does not make easy. You’ll notice I have not done that on the OM&S. I have built up, but not beneath track level. Copperhead Creek would be the only exception to what I said, but there I actually build a special base on which to create the foundation for the creek and to support the bridge abutments on which the bridge sits. I hope that helps. I appreciate your questions. Thank you again! Bill

With scenery, one of the good things is that you can always keep trying to improve the “look.” If I’m not happy with the end result, I can always start redo it. @ozarkmidlandsouthernrailway10 ай бұрын
Hi, outreachvideo! Slot cars, very interesting. So, as I understand it you are wanting to combine both railroad and slot car tracks on the same table. And you are wanting to raise the railroad track at a location or locations so that the slot car track can pass under it. While my railroad does have elevated trackage, I did not utilize trestles per se in that what I used to gradually elevate the track (1" x 4" blocks cut a graduated heights) are covered by walls and scenery material. Where a track passes beneath the elevated track I used Lionel girder bridges. I do not specifically have a video about the construction of the elevated area but if you watch the following two videos, I think you can get an idea of what I did: kzbin.info/www/bejne/al6Wf42MqcSMfLMsi=T0B6pEvX_F8QKU68 and kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXy8gYB9aN-sZ6csi=th_d9rfmPinDjsOg I hope this helps. Nice work on the layout :) One question: what's the size of the layout?
@ozarkmidlandsouthernrailway10 ай бұрын
Thank you, Hobbieswith Matt, much appreciated! The railroad is built in a room that is 23'8" x 14' but because of a bathroom and doorway opening into the space not all of that space is usable for the layout itself. The railroad was built in four stages (phases). The main table that consumes the most space is 14'10" x 5'5". In addition, there is a small yard located on the left side of the main table that is now about 14' in length, and a reverse loop (the Bridge Loop) built at one end of the layout on the right side of the layout. I hope this helps to answer your question. Bill
