The issue with the change of tone is not from watching Hollywood movies - the movie was pitched as this big budget rom-com action masala movie and as a follow up from Main Hoon Na, and especially when Deepika’s entry song had blown up there were a couple slightly jarring things on first watch: 1. The tone shift with murder and both leads dying was far more tragic and serious than the promos had let on, 2. One went in expecting a Deepika-SRK romance but really DP’s character was in a love-affair with Arjun Rampal and SRK’s love was entirely one-sided in the first half, and barely explored in the 2nd - so both things were weird at first watch i remember. But these are not flaws, and actually the movie is fab but it was unexpected back then

Also Dastan is more about trying to scare him with Shanti's ghost to get him to confess, and Bismil is about confirming Haider's mostly confirmed suspicion, and shaming his mom and uncle for marrying after betraying his father.

I have so many fond memories attached with OSO. I watched it in the theatre, first day first show. As a 10 year old, watching movies in theatres at that time was a whole different fun. I was mesmerized seeing Deepika as Shantipriya, SRK had been my favourite since childhood and DP became my absolute favourite that day till today.

I had a crush on Deepika Padukone after seeing her in OM SHANTI OM. Deepika Padukone did a Kannada film before debuting in Bollywood with OM SHANTI OM. She got noticed by Farah Khan because of featuring in a music video with Himesh Reshammiya. I saw the movie twice in the theatre, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali clashed twice with SRK. Deepika Padukone was part of the SLB film when Sanjay Leela Bhansali got his film released alongside SRK's in 2015 and won at the box office
