Many thanks for the recommendation for the Rugged UHS II cards. I had been using the Sandisk Extreme Pro 200Mb write speed cards and these buffer. I then bought a couple of the Rugged ones, it is like having a new camera, what a difference, no buffering. Also changed as per your recommendation, to record on one card and check images every so often.

Thaks, Lee. I've been using Lexar cards lately, but just used your link to get a 256GB Promaster Rugged Cine card before I leave for a photoshoot in Namibia. Great info, and getting your experience with Promaster is a great help when it is not one of the "highly advertised brands" like Sandisk, Lexar, etc.!

In my E-M1 mark 2, I have Prograde 64gb UHS II V60 in both slots. If slot 1 is filled I simply switch the cards around. That gives me capacity for 3200 shots per card at 20mb. On Hi-res 80mb Raw it's still 800 per card. No need for a card holder, and they are weather-sealed in the body.

Promasters are great cards, I have a few videographer friends that swear by their CF Express cards for 4K & 8K. I am a Sony TOUGH convert. After a few SanDisk's switches breaking on me back in the day as well, I switched to the Sony Tough Cards. For 30 extra bucks over the ProMaster I also get IP68 rated SD cards to go with my IP53 rated cameras. More peace of mind when I forget, and they go thru the washer :-)

Hello Lee great video. I do not shoot as much as I do. I bought 2 of these from Amazon. It gives me 2 extra batteries for each camera and able to 4 SD cards in each. For me right now that is enough. here is the link. K&F Concept Camera Battery SD Card Holder for 4 SD Cards, 2 Camera Batteries, 6 TF Cards, 2 CF Cards or 2 XQDs, Water-resistant and Anti-shock Case, Camera Accessories, Small SD Card Case. Thank you Lee for all you do for us OM and OLY owners out here. In addition to my OM1 I have just purchased and OM! II. I cannot get my MacBook to open the ORF files from the Mark II in Preview. It says that it does not recognize the ORF files. The old ORF files opened fine. What must I do to get my MacBook to recognize these files??? I am leaving soon on a photo shoot and I am in a bit of a panic. Help, please. Thank you Joe McGrath

Joe, have you updated your Macbook OS? I have a newer Macbook Pro and if I am in icon or list mode, I can't see the actual image. In Gallery mode, I can see the ORF files just fine. Try that and let me know Joe!

@@leehoyphotography Thank you Lee. I am running Sonoma 14.6.1 which I'm sure is up to date. I am not familiar with the Gallery mode but yes when I entered that mode the ORF opened. Do you by chance have a previous video that shows or explains your work flow using Gallery and how you would sift through thousands of images efficiently? Has Apple just not caught up or might this be the slowness of OM sys? Preview says it does not support the ORF and so does Photoshop Elements and Adobe DNG converter. I am baffled. NEO and TOPAZ open them fine. Thank you for taking the time to answer so quickly. Joe McGrath

Useful video! My current cards are 64GB Lexar. Occasionally, they fail for a few pictures, so I'm not totally happy. I'm considering a new laptop; most realistic laptops I consider only have micro SD card readers, if at all. Q: what is your view on using micro SD cards in an SD adapter in my OM-1? - Advantage: I can read the pictures on laptops I consider - Possible disadvantage: not reliable connections?
@leehoyphotography3 ай бұрын
I have never tried micro SD cards in my OM cameras and won't as for me having a card + adaptor is just one more possible source of an issue when recording an image. That is my take!

hi Lee thanks again for your tip regarding the SD cards. I have a question. Is it true that the AF has problems focusing in low or difficult lighting conditions? Kind regards from the Netherlands
@leehoyphotography3 ай бұрын
I have had great success with AF in low light conditions, one thing that can cause an issue is when people are severly underexposing an image and the viewfinder is dark then AF might struggle. I was tearing it up in Brazil in low light with AF!
@theflyingdutchman71273 ай бұрын

Thanks, are there any issues using the micro-SD cards with the adaptor, such as in tablets and some cell phones in cameras? Several of my cameras use the compact flash cards. I have read that there is an adaptor to hold a SD card inside a compact flash card with mixed results, do you know of such?
@leehoyphotography3 ай бұрын
Robert, I am not sure, great question. I have never used in my OM System gear, for me having the adaptor and the card just increases the likelihood that you could have an issue. I have never heard of the CF/SD card adaptor so can't help you there. My preference is to use the exact format for each piece of gear like a micro SD card for my DJI Osmo Pocket!
@robertsaunders57403 ай бұрын
@@leehoyphotography As I recall the adaptor was available thru Amazon. As a single SSD or a dual micro-SSD card holder, that you had to rotate to fill the other card. And not all that reliable?

I lost a lot of images from a once in a lifetime trip to Puerto Rico with my cousin. (Sandusky) I wish I had set my camera up have backup images backed up on a second card. I may have contributed to the card’s demise by deleting images in camera. I will quit doing that. On another note I am considering a trip to your area if the summer monsoon and my schedule come together.

Hi Lee I'm confused. Please correct me if my reasoning is incorrect. OM-1 mk2 shows a maximum write speed need of 202Mbps (Mega bits per second) for 4K 60p which a V30 card writing 202 mega bits divided by 8 to get MBps (Mega Bytes card) would only have to write at 25MBps. So a fast card isn't needed for 4K 60p Only when it comes to shooting 120 fps for RAW stills at apprx 20MB (MegaBytes) per still frame would a faster card help in clearing the 200 frame buffer. So, how many times do you fill the 200 frame buffer and have to wait until it is written to the card? A V90 card would only be useful if you were constantly filling the 200 frame buffer and having to wait until it cleared?
@leehoyphotography3 ай бұрын
I shoot at 50FPS and I often push the buffer, but never have to wait, for me having a little extra speed is preferable to a little under! Plus, there could be firmware updates that increase that speed!

I am not sure I understand the comment about not deleting your images in camera. the OM1 has a "format card" option under the wrench icon which is what I use. is this ok to use or if not, what is best practices you mention to avoid memory card failure. thanks, great video series.
@jugstopper3 ай бұрын
I believe he meant don't delete an image here and there while shooting, just to free up space. You will end up with the memory on the card being fragmented, with gaps where you deleted images between images you didn't. The camera will then write into the gaps and a new image may not fit in a gap, so that it gets written partly in one place and partly in another. At the least, that could impact performance/speed; at worst, Lee seemed to feel it could lead to failure of the card. He is saying to have a big enough card so that you won't need to free up space on the card by deleting images while shooting. Then, after uploading the images from the card, format (not erase) the card in the camera.
@leehoyphotography3 ай бұрын
@jusstopper nailed what I meant! Formatting a card is always great! Unless you haven't transferred images yet!
